I inserted the tagged url for the answer to Question 1

and got it as correct.

Now I am confused whether we have to use utm_ or not. In a reply to another post, Christina, had given the string as

This is without utm. Please clarify whether we should use the string with utm or without utm.

Do we have to put the tagged url as a value for the attribute href in the anchor tag?

Hi there,

Your answer is indeed correct. You must use the utm_ with each parameter.

I'm unable to find the post where I shared the incorrect answer. If you find it, please do let me know so that I can correct my mistake!

Cheers,

Hi Christina,

Thank you for answering my question. I have 2 more questions. Could you please answer them before this forum closes? Thanking you in anticipation.

1. How can I make a click for contact email as a goal? On my contact page, I have an email set up as the href attribute for the anchor tag. I would like to set up a click on email as a goal.

2. Do we have to put the tagged url as a value for the attribute href in the anchor tag?

You had shared a wrong answer on the post

Lesson4.5 Collecting Campaign Data
after creating a utm content url for a campaign, do I have to insert it somewhere in my GA account for seeing results?

Hi there,

Regarding your first question, you would need to use Event Tracking to tag a click on the contact email and then set up the Goal in your view to track the event that's fired when a user clicks on your contact email. You can read about that implementation process here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033068

I'm not sure if I understand your second question, so feel free to correct me if I'm misunderstanding. If you're asking whether you would add campaign tags as an attribute to the contact email link on your website, the answer is no. The campaign tags are used to add information about external websites that refer to your site, not to track data about what people do within your own site.

And thank you for pointing me to the incorrect answer -- it has been updated!

Hi Christina,

Thank you for your replies. My 2nd question is related to the following tagged url

If I place a link to my website http://www.mysite.com in the newsletter, then, the anchor tag will be
<a href="http://www.mysite.com"></a>

To use the tagged url, I will put it in the href attrribute like this"

Please let me know if this is correct.

Thanks!
