IC-7300, RPi Zero 2W, DigiPi version 1.9.4, USB cable with ferrites on each end

Capitalizing on Craig's advice to Rick D (9/9) I changed the GPS Device back to ttyACM1 in the initialization. That got me back to successfully receiving/decoding APRS HF stations. And I'm able receive and transmit in WSJTX-FT8 mode, although I have to reconfigure it each time away from the IC-705 default settings (I guess that [save configuration] would help with this - I'll worry about that later).

But I cannot get my 7300 to transmit when in the APRS HF TNC / WebChat mode. The DigiPi shows it to be transmitting but it doesn't key up the radio. The packet log shows the following:

[0L] KC3NOH>APZ100,GATE::KC3NOH   :DDDD{7952
Hamlib Error: rig_set_ptt command for channel 0 PTT
   3:frame.c(138):icom_one_transaction entered
rig_flush: called for serial device
read_string_generic called, rxmax=4095 direct=1, expected_len=1
write_block(): TX 8 bytes, method=2
read_string_generic called, rxmax=200 direct=1, expected_len=1
read_string_generic(): Timed out 1.001 seconds after 0 chars, direct=1
   3:frame.c(294):icom_one_transaction returning(-5) Communication timed out

I had it working previously (well the radio transmitted), but I had to reflash that SD card because of incorrect location settings. Then it wouldn't work at all until I did the GPS Device change mentioned above.

Because I had it working once, I feel like it's something basic that I'm missing but I'm just spinning my wheels here. And honestly, computers are not my strong suite, I'm better with a multimeter and a soldering iron.

So what should I try next?

Thanks Craig for the quick response.

It's the same USB cable and baud rate that allows the DigiPi to run WSJTX.  For grins I added a couple more ferrites to the cable and I dropped the transmit power down to 0%. But the radio still did not transmit.

But I noticed in the pkt log at start up that "Hamlib determined CAT control serial port rate of 115200". I went into the 7300 settings menu and changed the CI-V USB baud rate to 115200 from 19200 which I selected during initialization and bingo! I'm transmitting from WebChat.  But not total success yet  because I didn't get a thumbs up or return on my messages, and still getting error messages in pkt log:
[0L] KC3NOH>APZ100,GATE::KC3NOH   :115200{7264

Hamlib Error: rig_set_ptt command for channel 0 PTT
write_block(): TX 8 bytes, method=2

read_string_generic(): RX 8 characters, direct=1
icom_one_transaction: frm_len=8, frm_len-1=fd, frm_len-2=00
 1:frame.c(403):icom_one_transaction returning(0)
0:frame.c(455):icom_transaction returning(0)
                     -1:icom.c(5041):icom_set_ptt returning(-5) Communication timed out

                     -2:rig_set_ptt: elapsed=75ms
                     -2:rig.c(3013):rig_set_ptt returning(-5) Communication timed out

Communication timed out

I'm creeping up on success which is way better than being dead in the water.  So what can I try next to bring this home? And should I reflash the SD card to select the 115200 baud rate?

Hi Jack - great success!

Hamlib uses the fastest baud supported by the model (it's hardcoded) which
you can override in direwolf.tnc300b.conf on the PTT line.

If you're transmitting on HF, send a Beacon on APRS WebChat and then
visit aprs.fi to see if you made it out.  Also, sit on 10.14760USB for a while
and see if you hear any traffic.  it's sparse.  to get a thumbs up, another
station needs to hear you, and be willing to relay  message-type packets.
It's not guaranteed particularly on HF, depending on the band.

I think I'd ignore the error in packet log if you're transmitting and have audio.
I wouldn't reflash.

Success! Beacon sent on HF as suggested and saw on aprs.fi that it was received in Hot Springs AR (I'm in MD near Baltimore). I've picked up several stations on 10.1476. Looking at my messages in aprs.fi it looks like WXBOT responded to me with a local weather report, but it did not show up in WebChat at the time. Several other minor things for me to work through but I'd say I'm basically there. Now it's time to start learning all these things that DigiPi will enable me to do.

Next up, get DigiPi up and running on my Xeigu G90 and get an HT set up so I can see what's happening on VHF.

Thanks Craig!

great success!  thanks for the report.

Also, try using "GATE" as your path (vs WIDE1-1) when operating APRS on HF.

30m working best at sunrise these days too.
