Greetings,

Assembled a DigiPi (Pi4/LCD/SignaLink box). One annoying problem however:
No audio devices selected in WSJTX and JS8Call result in sound output.
I have tried every audio device listed without success.

Steps taken:
Configured DigiPi system and rebooted.
SignaLink box is detected correctly using aplay -l:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: CODEC [USB AUDIO  CODEC], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
From the shell, I can use aplay to output a (test) .mp3 file just fine.
The SignaLink box triggers its PTT confirming sound being sent out.
This rules out many items: cables, Pi4 and alsamixer settings.

Does anyone have any suggestions where to look next?

I've not tested a signal link, so the alsamixer levels wouldn't be set to
anything sane by default.

Click "Audio" on the DigiPi home page, make sure playback volumes
are up and not [M]uted.  Playback source should be something like
"PCM".  post a screenshot of the Audio page if unsure.

On wsjtx the audio output volume (lower right corner) is set low
on purpose, try maxing that out.

Audio device should be "default" or "plughw".  On js8call, i noticed
I have to switch to plughw to get audio received, and can switch
back go default and it continues to work.

cool,
-craig

Hi Craig,
Thanks for the tips. I have tried all the devices listed in WSJTX and no still cigar.
Does the fact that aplay running fine not rule out Mute, Alsamixer and Volume settings?
Does WSJTX talk directly to the CODEC or to the CODEC via the OS?
I might give up and get a CM108 device (i.e: DigiRig) but like the audio isolation provided by SignaLink.
Cheers,
/Benoit

Signal-Link is "vox based" if I recall correctly, so digirig is probably a step up from that.

I think I mentioned the volume slider in the lower right corner of wsjtx?  max that out?

Hi Craig,
I never really maxed out the WSJTX gain slider as I thought that 2/3 was a good start.
For fun, I set it to full tonight and was surprised to see SignaLink trigger the PTT!
It turns out that 60-70% is where my SignaLink (vox PTT) will trigger (I was just below).
So in conclusion for others users:
-You were right: when in doubt, MAX IT OUT
-SignalLink appears to work when selected in the audio tab as "default".
-Testing SignaLink with "aplay" (from the shell) is a good sanity check.
-Failing to have aplay produce results, check Alsamixer settings (including Mute).
Cheers,
/Benoit
