Hi, apologies if this has already been discussed.

I have the DigiPi Hat, I have it running happily with Baofeng radio but want to use as a tracker.

I have the GPS module but for the life of me I can’t seem to get it working. It’s plugged in and the red LED is lit but that’s it.

I have amended Direwolf.tnc.conf, changed settings in /dev/default/gpsd and nothing.

Can anyone give me a run down of their settings and how they got this working.

DigiPi V1.9

Thanks in anticipation

Hi David,

I'd run dmesg in the terminal to find the hardware address of the gps.  Should be something like /dev/AMA0 or similar.
You should see where to edit it in the configs you've edited.

Good luck,

Eamon - MI7DJT

... and run "cgps" to see if you're getting any data.

The GPS should be blinking if it has a lock.  I had to take mine outside for a few minutes to get the initial lock.

Thank you both, I couldn't see anything in dmesg but unsure what I'm looking for?

See at the bottom if it helps.

This is all I see in CGPS, with the DigiPi sitting outside for a considerable length of time.

I tried it with a USB GPS dongle which worked fine after changing from /dev/ttyUSB1 > ACM0

I can't think what else to try, any thoughts?

It looks like you're reading the gps on ttyUSB1 .   I think that's legit for the DigiPi Hat (as
the ptt stuff happens on ttyUSB0).

Additionally, you don't have a GPS lock yet.   When you do, the LED on the bottom
of the gps will start blinking, and the cgps data will all be populated (not n/a).

You really do need to take it outside, away from noise, few trees, at least for
the initial lock... subsequent locks will be faster (it stores the last solution in memory
for a while).

Thanks Craig, it was sat in the middle of my garden for a full 1/2 hour, the most my battery pack could manage hi hi.

If all seems configured correctly I will try for longer tomorrow.

As always thanks for the help.

Thank you both, I couldn't see anything in dmesg but unsure what I'm looking for?

See at the bottom if it helps.

This is all I see in CGPS, with the DigiPi sitting outside for a considerable length of time.

Hi all, well I’m pleased to report it is now working after leaving it on top of the car for an extended period. Clearly my back garden has a terrible view of the sky.

One odd observation is that CGPS with the serial GPS module gives the correct location but no satellites populate the seen/used field. The USB GPS does show the satellites seen/used, not really an issue.

What have I learned from this other than I need more patience?

dmesg only shows the serial converters USB address (I had incorrectly assumed it was an i2c device) and the serial GPS appears to be less sensitive than the USB GPS.

Thanks Guys
