That seems to be a HDMI screen, so no different to a regular monitor.  Digipi is not designed to work with a GUI connected, you will only see the terminal display. You will need one of the suggested SPI board displays.
Best option might be to get a second pi with a GUI installed and the 10.1" display, using the web browser to connect to the Digipi, which is essentially what I do in the shack.  It does other stuff too of course, including running logging software.

I've tried and failed to get digipi displaying on a typical HDMI monitor (works, but is prohibitively slow).

If you want a display, these are the two choices,

I'm using a repeated computer to view the digipi using the ip. After loading software into the pi it's not showing any activity

It isn't very clear to me what your setup is.  You will need a browser on another machine to access the setup and control panel and other features (FT8 etc.) on the digipi.  Craig added a feature in the new release so that the APRS decoding would be visible on a separate browser window.  Nothing will appear on an HDMI monitor attached to the pi itself.  You will have to get one of the displays suggested by Craig above.

See the picture attached. Nothing populated on this screen

In the initial setup for you click "initialize" is there a specific thing I'm suppose to type in foe it all to work? Or do I need to specify.

at this point we need to verify you can receive aprs packets.

I would click "PktLog" on the digipi home page, while "APRS TNC and Igate" is on, and see
what it's doing.  paste the contents of the log here and we'll know more.

Do you have a spare HT or aprs radio that can transmit aprs packets nearby?   We need
to know if you're out of range, or if you're not receiving for another reason.

direwolf isn't starting for a reason I can't see.

Please click PktLog first, then turn on the "APRS TNC and Igate"  (turn it off then on again).  This
should display the complete startup log.

okay, thanks.  this indicates there is no audio device connected to DigiPi.

If you want to open a "Shell"   (login: "pi",  password "raspberry"), you can
run "cat /proc/asound/cards" to see the available audio cards.  I suspect there
are none.

What rig is this?  how is it connected exactly?

thanks,

The Yaesu dual-band rigs do not present an audio device via USB.  To use an FTM400,FTM500 or FT5,
you need a Pi, an audio interface, and a PTT circuit.  This can be accomplished several ways.

1) DigiRig interface between FTM400 and DigiPi  (use "RTS" as rig number ttyUSB0 as device)
2) FE-Pi audio board, n7ebb.com PTT board and CT167 cable
3) DigiPi Hat with CT167 breakout cable (no soldering).

I like option 3 if you have a full-size Pi (pi4).

Okay now with option 3 is there anything additional I need to do ? Or is this simply plug and play? This cable ct167 will.hook to the 10 pin on the back of my Yaesu 400 to plug in to the digipi hat module?
