I have an iPhone ... so getting bluetooth connections for either RadioMail or APRS.fi apps is .... difficult.

But since the Digipi will set up as a hotspot when I take it out of the house ... is there a downside to just using the hotspot wifi in the car, while camping, or even hiking?

Is it a power thing or ???

Hi Shell,

I use DigiPi wiht the aprs.fi app.  I setup avahi discovery on the digipi, so you
can "find" it from within the aprs.fi app.

and yah, digipi will become a hotspot when not near your house, no downside really.

I'm not an IOS expert but there can be problems with bluetooth serial port protocol,
and traditional bluetooth.

Avahi is a subnet/broadcast network protocol that allows things to find
each other - MacOS uses it
for stuff.  It's already available on DigiPi -- look for "Dire Wolf"
after you turn on APRS TNC/igate
on DigiPi.
