K5CMH and I had an idea to auto set the APRS HF frequency when you start up the APRS HF TNC.

1 single line added near the top of direwolf.tnc300b.sh can do it

The following command works for g90+Digirig but could be adjusted to your rig.  It sets frequency to 10147.6 along with mode to USB-digital (PKTUSB) with the default bandwidth filter (0)

#attempt to set rig to APRS HF freq/mode:
/usr/bin/rigctl -m 3088 -r /dev/ttyUSB0 -s 19200 -P RTS F 10147600 M PKTUSB 0

That's what I do!  Works well for all the other modes too, like setting the APRS frequency on VHF for tnc and digipeater.  Also for setting up repeater mode for VHF sstv.

that's brilliant you guys!

I wonder if we can set the VHF APRS frequency based on the user's claimed grid square?   :)
