I have my DigiPi setup as a digi & an Igate. I have APRSDroid connected to my DigiPi on my local network here at home.

When I use APRSDroid to send a message to WXBOT, DigiPi is sending the request out the RF port and does get a response from a local Igate.

My question is, why does my DigiPi even send the WXBOT message out the RF? Shouldn't my DigiPi be sending the message directly to noam.aprs2.net?

I am getting IG data from noam.aprs2.net and properly routing filtered packets to RF. So at least the IG to RF is working as expected. So I'm surprised my APRSDroid messages aren't going to noam.aprs2.net

Great question!  This is by design.   APRS WebChat only uses RF.   Separate igate feature of DigiPi forwards
everything it hears on RF to the Internet (and it doesn't hear your own packets going out on RF).

APRS WebChat can be configured to use the Internet only, in fact we use this for code testing quite a bit,
just edit ~/.config/aprsd/aprsd.conf and make [aprs_network] true instead of false, and make aprs_kiss
false instead of true.

Ultimately WebChat is configured to ignore the Internet, so when the Internet goes down, you stay up.

if it helps,
