I have an FT-891 and a DigiRig DR-891, has anyone here be able to get DigiPi to work with the DR-891? I have not tried yet but seem to recall somewhere that DigiPi does not work out of the box with the DR-891 ?

Hey Dan, iirc, the 891 is a hybrid hamlib/ptt device.  Get the DigiRig-891, and on DigiPi
select DigiRig Mobile as your radio interface.  After that, you'll likely need to edit
/etc/systemd/system/rigctld.service and insert your rig number if you want the frequencies
to change when you use Pat.

I'm curious how others do this with wsjtx, etc.  we need a wiki entry!  github.com/craigerl/digipi (click wiki)

thanks,

I'm struggling to get this DR-891 to work with DigiPi. I have tested on another Raspberry Pi running Bullseye with JS8Call and I am using CAT control with the USB audio and it does work fine, so I  know the radio , baud rates etc are all correct and functioning as expected.
The issue I am having with DigiPi is that as soon as I turn on the FT-891 when connected to the DR-891 connected to the DigiP,i, the transceiver immediately begins to flutter between transmit and receive, quite rapidly.
I have tried completely killing rigctld and the transmit / receive flutter continues to occur . If I remove the black audio cable from the DR-891, the flutter stops .
I am not sure how to proceed at this point but it is clearly an issue on the audio side of things.

Ok now I have found that if I use alsamixer to reduce the output volume down to 25, the radio transmit / receive flutter stops . The PTT works and I am nearly there, the problem is that if the output volume is set to 25, it is not loud enough to drive the transmitter.
I would immediately think that this is the result of VOX being on and causing the issue but that is not the case and as I previously it does all work fine on another Raspberry Pi not running DigiPi .
So for fun I ran alsamixer in a separate window and transmitted with JS8Call and simultaneously cranked the output volume up in alsamixer , this resulted in enough volume to drive the transmitter.
Still trying to get to the bottom of it all .

The rapid tx on/off is typically the GPS service thinking your USB rig is a gps.

you can edit /etc/default/gpsd  (change device file to something else)

or re-initialize, setting GPS device to something else... anything but the hamlib device

if it helps,

i had the same problem - i need to have another looks but it is looking more like RFI getting into the pi over USB and power cables - will be testing with ferrite chokes hopefully tonight. turning down the audio would drop the transmitter power
