My DigiPi has changed IP addresses.  I use an Orbi router.  Is there a way to force my DigiPi to always use a specific IP address, rather than allowing Orbi to assign one to the device?

Hi Randall, it's really up to your router to create a "static" dynamic IP address.  You
enter the Pi's mac address and assign a specific IP.

DigiPi could assign it's own IP, but it would eventually conflict with your router's
IP address space.

You could use a static IP outside the routers DHCP range to avoid conflict, but yeah, setting a IP reservation in the router is usually easier.

My WinLink RMS Gateway has been working flawlessly for over a month now.  I test it every day to ensure that it can send and receive.  I have a timer connected to the DigiPi, so that every night at midnight, it is powered off.  When it comes back on I've setup the DigiPi to automatically restart my Winlink server.  I have also connected the DigiPi power through an Alexa switch, so I don't necessarily need to wait until midnight to fix a problem that may be readily fixed via rebooting my DigiPi.

For some reason, last night during the reboot, my DigiPi changed IP addresses.  Initially, I just thought this was annoying.  Then, I discovered that I could no longer connect to my RMS via RF.  I checked the Sys Log and found an error message, which I did not capture to share in this post.  Regardless, I had no idea what it meant anyway.  All I knew was that I could not connect to my RMS and I tried rebooting the DigiPi several times.  I even tried powering the radio on and off.  Nada improvement.

So, based on your advice I went into the Advanced Lan Settings on my Orbi and I reassigned the DigiPi to the IP address that had been working properly.  Boom!  Now, with the old IP address connecting my DigiPi to my network I can also connect to my RMS via RF!

Thank you as always for you great support and for creating your amazing digital hotspot.  Go DigiPi Nation!  Let's cover the world with these little gems.

Great work!! thanks for sharing.

I'll admit i put a not-necessary reboot in cron on my production DigiPi's, every 3 days
at midnight.  It can clean up stale ax.25 connections, free up memory, etc.  I just
did a follow up on the COOL node (KM6LYW-10), everything seems to be working
great!

Lots of DigiPi's showing up on https://aprs.fi/  (black diamond with an R) -- great work everyone!
