Hello all -

I have two quick questions about using a U-Blox 7 GPS dongle.

1. If I've entered my latitude and longitude values during the initialization, and then decide to also add a GPS dongle for positioning (I'm building a portable DigiPi unit to take hiking and kayaking), will DigiPi know to defer to the GPS unit for APRS positioning information and not rely on the lat/long numbers?

2. During initialization, the GPS Device field is pre-populated with ttyACM1. Is that simply an example, or is it meant to indicate that DigiPi needs the Trixie operating system to assign that device position to any GPS unit that's added.

Thanks in advance to anyone with the answers!

Hi Paul,

ttyACM1 is an example, works for the ic705.

Plug in the ublox during initialization, you should see the device file listed/detected
at the bottom of the Initialize page.  (i think it's ttyACM0 ?).  The SysInfo page will
also display the detected device files.

you can edit /etc/default/gpsd after the fact if anything changes

DigiPi only uses the GPS to get time (if no internet), and for the APRS Tracker
service.  Otherwise your Initialize coordinates are used.  The Tracker is also
an igate/tnc.

if it helps,

Thanks, Craig -

This is all helpful, particularly the info about where DigiPi pulls its location information from.

The reason for the question about addressing of the GPS device is because it once worked, but now isn't appearing as a registered device. According to the flashing LEDs, the GPS is functioning properly and locking on satellites, but the Pi Zero 2W no longer sees it as being connected. It doesn't show up in SysInfo or SysLog. Probably a sketchy cable or the dongle itself. I'll replace both and see if that fixes the issue.
