Hey Guys,

Not sure what more to look at — maybe I’ve just got a DOA AIOC.

PTT keys, but nothing is xmitted. Don’t seem to receive any APRS packets either.

Have reinstalled DigiPi, changed Baofengs, changed antennas, and usb cables. Good separation between Pi and HT. Ferrite beads in place.

Running on Raspberry Pi 3B+

Config file attached.

so no transmit audio, ptt keys and receive audio is unknown.

is a baofeng mini?  we're getting reports the AIOC pins don't seat well in those.

remove your ADEVICE from the .conf file.  DigiPi uses the first card listed in "cat /proc/asound/cards",
using the ALSA_DEVICE=0 environment variable.  (see direwolf.tnc.sh for more info).

PktLog should show us how/if audio devices are being used for aprs.

... and let us know, thanks,
-craig

All right folks. I’m gonna sheepishly tell you what I stumbled upon…

The Baofeng still had a positive offset enabled!  So every time it was keyed on VFO, the actual transmitting frequency was changed (of course)! I’m successfully transmitting now (successfully sent myself sms text messages).

I still don’t seem to be decoding received packets however — I’ve already adjusted the squelch to very low (1) and even off (0) to no effect. I see the receive LED on the HT light up, but nothing in PktLog (see below).

I can see that the Baofeng is receiving APRS, but nothing is making it DigiPi (no Rcv light activity) on the screen. Thoughts?

Hi Mike,

squelch off/zero

try 25/50/75% volumes on the baofeng volume knob

the 'feng is a poor  receiver in general, so we need to give it all the help we can

Alright folks, another embarrassing admission that I will share for others’ benefit/entertainment. 🤣

My dumb ass had R-CTCSS enabled!!

So, now:
  • RX/TX Offset = OFF
  • R-CTCSS = OFF
  • T-CTCSS = OFF
  • B/W = Wide
  • SQL = 1
  • Volume Knob = 60%
    • (PktLog was first reporting Audio Level too high/hot with knob at 90%)
And it’s working like a charm!!!

73!
