I have installed DigiPi on a Raspberry 5 and connected the Pi 5 to a Yaesu FT710 via an USB cable with sufficient ferrite clamps.

DigiPi image installation went smoothly and I was under the impression that everthing was 100% OK.

When running WSJTX the CAT control, PTT and input audio worked perfectly, except the audio output. When trying to TX in WSJTX I got the following message: “Error in sound output, Non-recoverable error, audio output device not usable at this time".

Via a Google search I found out that the sampling rate in the Pi system had to be adjusted to 44.1 kHz, unfortunately this wasn’t the solution for my audio output issue…

Did someone experience a similar issue on the audio output?

Regards,

Leendert

Hi Leendert,

If you click SysLog, you might see additional error information.  You could also click
"Shell" (login:pi, password:raspberry), and run "dmesg" to see kernel/hardware errors.
That would help.

I'd swap USB cables first.   Secondly, I'd turn the RF power down to zero and see
if you can replicate the error, assuming it happens regularly.

Did you adjust the sampling rate down to 44.1 per the DigiPi wiki?

Audio device should be "default"   (but you could try plughw, and hw too).

b'dankt,

Hi Craig,

What an honor that I am being assisted by the developer of DigiPi!

- I have adjusted now the sampling rate to 44.1 as per the DigiPi wiki method.
- Sys log no errors.
_ USB cables swapped.
- Following kernel/hardware errors (dmesg command in the shell):

2.260194] sgtl5000 1-000a: Error reading chip id -121
2.280124] sgtl5000 1-000a: probe with driver sgtl5000 failed with error -121
288.951282] cp210x ttyUSB0: failed set request 0x12 status: -19
288.951286] cp210x ttyUSB0: failed set request 0x0 status: -19
288.951358] usb 3-2: clear tt 1 (9021) error -71

I am lacking computer knowledge to understand the above errors.

After the adjustment of sampling rate according to DigiPi method the input as well as the output audio in WSJTX is not selectable anymore (default not found).

When I am opening the "audio" section from the main DigiPi screen I see the following error message:

ALSA lib conf.c:2007:(_snd_config_load_with_include) _toplevel_:5:28:Unexpected char
ALSA lib conf.c:4615:(snd_config_update_r) /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf may be old or corrupted: consider to remove or fix it
cannot open mixer: Invalid argument

I am afraid I have done something wrong which has caused more issues...

Kindest regards,
Leendert

yah, one error indicates typos in your /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf, so if that doesn't load, there wont be audio.

Dear Craig,

Burned the image and started all over again.

Based on your recommendations everything works perfect!

Kindest regards,
Leendert
