I have the released 2.1-1 RC2 installed

I could not remember my GPS location so I thought before I set up Wi FI and initalizae lets look at my GPS location.

There was no GPS information.

OK

I then tried to set up WI FI that is return  to http://digipi.local

I was unable to get a splash screen .
I looked for the SSID Digipi to make sure I was on the correct SSID.

I could not find it .

So I re-imaged my SD card (32 GB) and started over. I set my WI FI SSID and then rebooted. I then was able from my home network to access http://digipi.local and initialize.

I also find that a 8 GB SD micro card with the new image 2.1-2rc2 img is just a bit too small. I did erase and format to Fat 32 before reloading. I find that 16 and 32 GB micro SD cards seem to work with no issues.

On another note. Take a look at the latest release of pin point aprs. It supports Maps but also adds weather and fire locations as well. Given all the wild fire in FL and GA lately I am finding the fire information of value. This is just a FYI

Beta/test version: PinPoint APRS v2.2 Build 260603 (June 3, 2026).

great report - thank you!

GPS isn't going to work until you tell Initialize your GPS device file.

I didn't know we blew past 8GB - thanks for the report.  I try and
leave 20% free on the sd's.

Formatting an SD card is never necessary.

Maps could/should use your gps location initially - on first contact
it should take you to the contact?  You can also set your home position
by clicking on an object.

The maps feature supports overlays, gpx, check out the Settings/gear
dialogue.

cool,

Hello Craig

Having working in the SW and IT industries for 45 years I know this can be rewarding, fun and a good advertisement for  lead poiseing.  There was a Mad Magazine pull out medical page for one dose all issues cure when I was a kid. It came in three doses 0.22, 0.38 and 0.45.

Lead Poisoning.

The famous MAD Magazine pharmaceutical pullout satire from 1970 (Issue #134, cover date April 1970) features a mock ad. It hilariously lists a "45-caliber dose" of medicine as a sarcastic, heavy-handed solution to everyday annoyances, acting as a metaphor for the absurdity of mainstream drug advertising. [12]

Yeah I am old.

So some takeaways

With the latest release initialize first before using GPS.

I was using Raspberry Pi Imager on a MAC to load the 2.1-1 RC2 IMG file on a 8 GB SD card. Perhaps there is some overhead?

If Maps is to use my GPS location then what should I expect to see? I assume my location on teh center of teh map.
I will look at this again with a fresh build.

I need to look more carefully at the BT function. It is fuzzy to me what I am to do with this. I assume it is to connect a browser to a Digpi without needed Wi Fi. Given that nearer I nor my peer J Penland can get digipi to tether to a wi fi hotspot of a I phone this may be a better approach.  (SSID “scott" Pass “abcdefghji”) no special characters. I

While this is approaching a laptop we would like to use a capacitive touch display to operate DigiPI where a browser is not handy. I can see using DP for SMS messages etc when remotely deployed as a stand along digipeter (No IP or Cell Access)

I have spent a lot of time in AT&T first net disaster locations where RF and Satellite is it for a few days till other resources  arrive. So I could see a RF APRS / APRS SMS, AX 25 relay from Radio Source 1 to digipeater 1 to digipeater 2 to I gate.

Retired for 1 year from AT&T.
