Hi. I recently put out a request to my friends on facebook for any spares or whole Briggs and Stratton engines for a  project that i was working on at the time. One of them replied with this! He said that i could have this 4hp engine as long as i took the rest away! Well, i got it home and fell in love with it!! The machine has been left outside under a cover for at least 10 years but is not in too bad a state. I have played around with the engine and after soldering a new wire from the coil to the condenser and fitting new points, i have an healthy spark, i will clean out the petrol tank and add clean oil and give it a go soon. From the engine numbers, it is from 1972. Once running, I will pull the m/c apart and clean and paint the whole thing.

Hi there, great to get given a BarOmix power barrow. Wouldn't mind one of those myself. Good luck with your project.

Here, here to that, Jim !
Is there literature about these on-line, please? For example : User manuals; Parts lists; Workshop manuals; ...
Yes, I do know that I can  Google-ize for results - but why re-invent the wheel.
Also are there other similar M/cs around - possibly like towable diggers comes one, comes many?
Kindest regards to all.

hi again.  i have now got the engine running sweet after cleaning the petrol tank, fitting a new carb diafragm and freeing up a stuck open exhaust valve!
i have started to clean and paint some parts and decided on dark green instead of the original pale blue. if anyone can help me regarding the brakes, it seems on my m/c the brakes are applied and when you pull the lever, they are released! does this sound right? i will put up more photos soon. cheers for now,

Hi Guys, sorry my reply is so late, but I read with interest your comments about the BarOmix power barrow. Without appearing too smug I have 2 of these both with the Petter 1A diesel on. They are great little machines and I used them in the 1990's on limited access excavations, starting with only 1 then I came across another 200 miles away but travelled and bought it straight away. My idea with having 2 was to dig and load with my Powerfab micro excavator and once 1 was away dumping the muck into a skip the other could be filled. This hasn't really happened though, although I did build a huge ramp in order that the load could be dumped from a height into the skip. I think I got my timing a bit wrong as the little tracked high discharge dumpers came onto the market and I would be competing with these. However I still have them and should really sell them on and put the money into more modern equipment but there's just something special about them and they are such a strong machine. Did you know you could get a set of wheels with tractor style seat which connects to the jocket wheel area to make a ride on rather than a walk behind.
I would really like to here from anyone who has one or has an interest in such machines. I have the original sales leaflet/brochure but no other paperwork.
Again sorry for the delay with this, but better late than never. regards Bob

Hi
I posted some pictures of my BaroMix power barrow a while ago when I I first purchased it and they can be found here

I also purchased off Ebay a brochure for the same however these were being made by British Demblom Equipment Ltd.which I have scanned this evening and turned into a pdf and attached to this post.

I also got a manual for the Petter AA1 which I am not sure of the copyright issues on scanning it but they are available on ebay as are all the filters etc.

Mine was a bit rough at purchase and involved rebuilding the diesel fuel system. Lining the holey fuel tank with POR15 Fuel Car / Bike Tank Repair Sealer which did an excellent job of sealing it up, new filters and an oil change got the engine running. A new belt stopped the drive slipping  and a replacement brake cable  has kind of got the breaks functioning..

The casterwheel also needed a new bearing and I got Oilite® Bearing Bushes and used them

I had a problem with the gears not selecting reliably so I opened up the gear box It looked as if someone repaired a broken selector fork by making a homemade one this was fine and worked but there was a lot of play in the freewheeling gears on the drive shaft shaft that the gear selector locked, leading to too much movement at the gear stick, so I cut off the flange off one of the bearings I had left over from the caster wheel job which I filed down until it was the right thickness and used it to take up some of the play which it did and the gear selection is now good.

***Hello, Chris (If I may)

***Superb set of pix, Chris - thank you so very much.

****Another fulsome t y Chris - an item which puzzled me - when stating the capacity of the muxer,  a figure of 3/2 cu ft (90/60 litres) is quoted.
Would you interpret this figure for me please? The only thing I can think is that it's :
Max =  60 litres of dry matter
Max when water added = 60 + 30 = 90 litres

****Many thanx

Hi Anthony.
I also posted a picture of our Barromix powerbarrow some time ago,it can be seen on the Barromix Major digger page. It was taken during a major overhaul & shows the machine (minus clutch/belt cover) freshly painted in Ford Tractor blue.
We have owned this one since the early 80's,the engine date is 1971.
Always felt this was a very good idea poorly designed, the butt is so delicately balanced that it couldn't be driven downhill fully loaded without tipping forwards, often lifting the driver off the ground. Occasionally, when we needed 2 machines we would borrow from another builder who had the mk1, this had a slightly smaller butt & a simple leg instead of the jockey wheel, always found this one much more manoeuvrable & easier to balance.

Regards the 3/2 mixer size, this is the traditional way of sizning mixer drums, 3/2, 4/3, 5/31/2, 7/5 etc. When mixing concrete from separate course & fine aggegate the fine aggregate & cement fills the voids in the course.
Eg. 4 cu ft. Gravel. + 2 cu ft. Sand + 1 cu ft cement (7 cu ft) consolidates to make 5cu ft of concrete hence 7/5.

Regards Tim.

Hi, to all who have shown an interest in these great machines, I have 2 of them, greedy or what, I would consider selling one of them if anyone's interested. Both have the Petter diesel engines fitted.

Hi, photos at last of one of my Baromix Power Barrows. The one in the photos has been overhauled and painted, the other one hasn't been painted but is the same model, i.e with a Petter diesel engine fitted.

Hi, I think your best bet is to remove the old seals with great care in order to be able to measure them accurately. Good bearing stockist can help with oil seals. But they will need the old one in order to measure the outside and inside diameters and the width etc. Or better still there might be a part number on it which they may be able to cross reference it against another.
Like I say the key is to take care removing it. There is a seal removing tool for the automotive industry I think Laser tools or draper tools may make one - check online.
