Fostering metacognitive skills can shape pre-service teachers into reflective, effective, and lifelong learners. True learning is not passive; it emerges when students actively wrestle with new ideas and try to make sense of what they are learning. This session aims to illustrate how integrating metacognitive strategies into teacher education programmes can help future educators manage their learning journeys more effectively.

María Eugenia Ianiro has been working in the field of ELT for more than 20 years. She has taught at all levels, in both private and state-run institutions, and worked as a teacher educator and teacher trainer. She holds a BA in the English language and a master’s degree in Professional Development for Language Education. Maria Eugenia´s time is now spent training future teachers at teacher training programmes, and delivering workshops and presentations, online and face-to-face. Her interests include methodology, metacognition, continuing professional development (CPD) for teachers, inclusive education, and socio-emotional learning.
