Update* On the LG TV, the airplay settings are not in the "settings" menu but in the "Home" app on the LG TV. Once I found this, after a TV firmware update my Airplay had been switched off. After re-enabling airplay on my TV, AirPlay now works. Best of Luck!
Since the last update of monterey 12.3 the airplay function is gone on my mac-mini late 2018. Normally this function was in system settings/network but it is gone so my Mac is no longer visible on my other devices (iPhone and Apple TV). Anyone else have this problem and what can you do about it?
I encountered the exact same problem which seems to have been introduced with the Monterey 12.3 update (the feature worked well in earlier versions). For the time being, I believe the only way to restore this capability is to revert to an earlier version of Monterey. For some reason, I was unable to go back to 12.2.1 (using a bootable installer) but was able to revert to 12.0.1 (using another bootable installer).
I was finally able to get back to Monterey 12.2.1 but was unable to use the bootable installer for this purpose (the installer kept hanging). I located a full installer which I successfully used to update from 12.0.1 to 12.2.1.
My suspicion is that this problem affects the Mac mini (2018) and perhaps some other models. My guess is that it's a side effect of the Universal Control features (which is disabled by default, at least on the Mac mini).
I am experiencing the exact same problem. It seems to be a MacOS Monterey problem. If I divert the system sound to any of my airplay devices, then it works, but if I invoke airplay inside Apple Music, it fails utterly.
I am trying to set up a MacBook Pro as an audio device to link with my Roon Core. I am using the Roon App on my iPhone, and the MacBook Pro appears on the list and I have set it to enabled. However, if I try to play to the MacBook Pro the lap top shows a 4 digit airplay code - and I cannot see where the code should be entered? So the play command does not then initiate playing the track!! I have seen lots of posts about this occurring with Apple TV - and how to solve it there - but none about the same issue with a MacBook Pro which of course has a different operating system! Ideas please? Many thanks Chris
Ok Mac Users - found a solution in case this helpful for anyone else! Go to System Settings, General, and then Airdrop and Handoff. Enable Airplay Receiver, and then Allow Airplay for anyone on the same network - and that seems to fix the issue! I hope this helps anyone else with the same challenge! Happy 2023 everyone! All the very best Chris
Don't worry - it's quick and painless! Just click below, and once you're logged in we'll bring you right back here and post your question. We'll remember what you've already typed in so you won't have to do it again.
The mac app won't show any airplay devices other than my phone or the web browser. My iphone Spotify app can see and send audio to any airplay device but my mac won't even show them. I think this was working fine when i was using an intel Macbook pro, but I'm not 100% sure if switching to M1 is what triggered this.
On iOS and MacOS, it's not possible to select Airplay devices directly from the Spotify Connect picker, but there should be a button there that will open up a native OS UI which should allow you to select your Airplay device.
If you still experience this, it might be caused by an issue with your device's cache. Not to worry, performing a clean reinstall of the app with the steps here should help solve this. It'll get you the latest version of Spotify with all necessary updates and fixes and will remove any corrupted files from previous installations.
On another note, this behavior could also be caused by VPN or private tunnel, since those re-route network traffic. We'd recommend to turn off VPN if you're using one and test if you'll experience the same.
@oli206, in this case, we'd like to gather some additional info. Just to confirm, is AirPlay working as it should with other apps? Is this just happening with Spotify, or does it happen on other apps?
Hey @hodgiers,
Welcome to the Community and thank you for joining the conversation.
Just to be on the same page, could you confirm if you've followed the processes previously mentioned in the thread?
Also, would you mind checking if the Web Player has the same behavior or if it works fine? This will give us a better look at the issue.
We'll be on the lookout.
On another note, would you mind letting us know what troubleshooting steps you've tried so far? If you haven't yet, we'd recommend reinstalling the app on your computer to see if you notice any difference. By doing that, the app can be up-to-date, and you can make sure the cache is not leading to this inconvenience. You check the steps to do it here.
Can you let us know if you can see your Airplay device when using the webplayer? This will help us figure out if the issue is isolated to the Desktop app itself or to some network connectivity settings.
I'm also experiencing this issue on my Macbook Pro 16 (with the M1 chip) on MacOS 12.3 -- airplay options show up in neither the desktop app or the webplayer. Airplay works via apple's Music app on the computer, and via spotify on my iphone.
Same as the rest, reinstalled app, Working with other devices, not working with app nor web player. Using MacBook Air M2 and MacMini M1, neither work with AIR play.. Can use it connecting MACOS sound to Airplay but not directly from Spotify app
Hey folks,
Thank you for keeping in contact.
To continue investigating this case, would you mind checking with a different Wi-Fi network to see if it makes any difference? In case you don't have another one available, you can use a mobile data hotspot to test it.
Also, in case you haven't done it before, include in your next response the make, model, and OS version of your device, along with the Spotify version you're currently running.
We appreciate your help and cooperation.
We'll be on the lookout.
However, when I open a video in Quicktime on my Mac, it gives me the option to AirPlay it within Quicktime to my TV. I select this option. The video stops playing on my Mac and the RokuTV just shows the AirPlay screen that shows my Wi-Network and Device name. It doesn't actually play anything. No error messages. I've tried multiple times, with different videos, I can't get it to AirPlay from Quicktime. However, I can get it Screen Mirror, so I know it's connected.
I had the same problem tonight when trying to airplay from a late 2015 27" iMac to a 2020 Roku Ultra running RokuOS 9.4.1 build 4236, and macOS 11.2.1 (iMac). Just got the Airplay settings instead of the video. What I thought might be wrong in my case was, it didn't work over a wired network since my devices are wired, and on screen it said to make sure they were on the same WiFi network. Since the other people here had the same issue on WiFi, it would seem that's not the problem. I do have a couple of Apple TVs that I could test, just to make sure AirPlay itself isn't broken, however a month or so ago, I tried AirPlay from an iPad / iPhone via the YouTube app and it seems to have worked. Also, Music seems to work via AirPlay.
What I found out is, this is a problem with local playback from QuickTime player, and a third party program I use called ElMedia player. When I did airplay from safari, to Roku things played nicely from YouTube, and screen mirroring works as well.
I did further confirmation to isolate the issue to Roku and local airplay playback by doing the same thing with my physical Apple TVs and the Apple TV I used worked with local playback where as Roku didn't
It seems like local video playback from the Mac isn't supported on the Roku over airPlay local as in App direct, screen mirroring works, so you could play something on the Mac and use screen mirroring over airplay, you could also set the Roku as a separate airplay display.
This seems to be limited to Quicktime, or third party apps like ElMedia Player Pro, when it comes to airPlay not working with Roku. I was able to confirm this was a Roku specific issue by trying the same sources on a physical Apple TV, which worked without problems. Hope this helps.
I'm having the same issue. Screen mirroring works but attempting to AirPlay from the QuickTime app itself just yields the AirPlay settings screen on my Roku TV. Both my laptop and TV are on the same wifi network. It's kind of a bummer because I'd like to use my Roku TV remote control with the media playback where possible.
Hello,
I have had similar problems almost every time I launch VOX. I can get the audio to play through the internal speakers but connecting to my Airplay device is spotty. VOX shows the Airplay device but selecting it nothing is streamed to the device. The only way I can consistently and 100% get it to connect is run Airfoil as an intermediary, but this is not ideal as VOX is supposed to support Airplay directly
If I go into the VOX preferences and switch to the Audio tab and Reset the Audio preferences. Close the preferences or switch the audio output to the Airplay device it will connect about 80% of the time on the first try. if it doesnt connect I will reset the preferences again and try a reconnect. Then toggle back and forth between internal speaker and the airplay device after the reset. This will typically get VOX to connect to Airplay on the 2nd or 3rd try.
Hi,
Is there a way to not have airplay devices show up in the sound settings in system preferences? The situation is this. Apparently, my parents have an airplay capable TV upstairs, and when I had to change my sound device, that popped up in the list. I don't have an airplay capable device, nor do I want one. The airplay pop up messed up Dad's game. So is there any way at all that I can disable airplay on my 2018 macbook running catalina?
Thanks,
How to turn off AirPlay on a Mac
1. On a Mac computer, click the Control Center icon at the top right.
2. Click the Screen Mirroring icon.
The Screen Mirroring control is found in the Mac's quick-access settings. 3. In the pop-up menu, click Display Preferences...
4. At the bottom of the Built-In Retina Display window, click the AirPlay Display menu and choose Off.
