Starting with the players, having one tour should bring a host of benefits. Since the Premier Padel and World Padel Tours have co-existed side-by-side, players have had to choose which tour they want to play on and subsequently missed out on competing at some of the biggest padel events across the world.
The ranking system is going to be huge. If you have two or even in some cases three different rankings you have to pick and choose what tournaments you play, you have to prioritise your ranking on specific tours and then your other rankings will drop.
However, what you can expect is a centralised calendar where the top events have their own specific slots in the year, where they may have clashed between the two tours in the past. The Cupra FIP Tour calendar will likely continue as it has been with a range of events for players competing at different levels on the international stage.

MADRID, March 2, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- The most broadcasted season of the history of the World Padel Tour has started. Up to 110 different countries will be able to enjoy live the World Padel Tour throughout their local or regional TV operator. A feat that brings the world's first professional padel tour closer to the level of major international sports competitions. This milestone confirms the global growth of the competition and the interest for a sport that is continuously attracting new followers in the six continents.
The agreement announced days ago with Movistar Plus+ in Spain for three seasons, that will enable the competition to control its broadcast production in all the tournaments globally for the first time in its history, follows to most recent deals with Sky Mxico, VodafoneZiggo and the US Provider DirecTV, to broadcast all the venues of the tour to Mxico, Netherlands and up to 58 territories in South America.
The confirmation of these new alliances complements last year's agreements with Canal+ France to take the tournament broadcasting to more than 60 countries, and with Mediapro Group to commercialize internationally the tv rights for the following seasons. All these agreements follow to the ones signed in the past seasons with Nordic Entertainment Group (Sweden Norway, Finland, Denmark and Iceland), SKY Italia and Telenet (Belgium), among other platforms.
The audiences registered last season demonstrate the growing interest globally for the best padel in the world. In 2021, the number of views through the official YouTube channel doubled the registers of the previous tour, with an average growth of 97% in the 18 countries with more than 300,000 views. Also, the 2.3 million live viewers per tournament through YouTube (43% more than in 2020) and the 36% growth in views of on-demand content through this channel, inspired the creation last year of World Padel Tour TV, the official OTT which in its first two months of activity obtained more than 225,000 registered users.
The tenth season of the World Padel Tour will be the consolidation of its own official video streaming platform, developed by LaLigaTech. This platform will allow the fans of the best padel in the world to enjoy live broadcast of the round of 32 and round of 16, for free, for the men's and women's tournaments. In this sense, the women's tournament in the 2022 season will be opened and fully broadcasted.
To do this, the WPTTV broadcasts will have a team of proven and top-level professionals led by Seba Nerone and Nicols Quarles van Ufford, and will have the presence of technical specialists such as former players Cata Tenorio and Javier Concepcin, the active player Peter Garca-Consuegra and the World Padel Tour coach, Vanesa Zamora, in addition to the incorporation of former number one Cecilia Reiter and coach Hugo Cases, as an added value for the broadcasts in English.
With this new agreement NTT DATA strengthens its commitment to padel, adding this agreement with WPT to the initiatives that the company has been developing for some time. The company sponsors some of the best padel players: Gemma Triay (world number 1) and Alejandra Salazar (world number 2); Ariana Snchez (world number 3) and Paula Josemara (world number 5), as well as Sofa Araujo (world number 22), the best player in Portugal; and Alejandro Galn, world number 1 in the male ranking.
By coming together with NTT DATA, World Padel Tour joins one of the international key players whose business consists of helping clients in their processes of digital transformation through consultancy, co-creating tangible solutions for its clients, and with a profound knowledge of the industry and advanced technological capacities.
It has been officially announced that Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) and Damm have reached a historic agreement, resulting in the unification of Premier Padel and WPT starting from 2024.
Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), owner of the Premier Padel ciurcuit, and Damm, the owner of Setpoint Events and the organizing company behind the World Padel Tour (WPT), have come to a historic agreement for the acquisition of WPT by QSI.
Following this agreement, Premier Padel and WPT will merge into a single global professional padel circuit, retaining the name Premier Padel, and will be governed by the International Padel Federation.
Nasser Al-Khelafi, President of Qatar Sports Investments and Premier Padel, stated: "This is a historic moment for the sport of padel, witnessing the two premier professional padel circuits finally unified into a single global circuit, Premier Padel, starting next year. We are very excited about this new chapter."
The agreement is the culmination of months of negotiations between the parties and will involve QSI acquiring the business assets of WPT. Additionally, the agreement will also resolve pending disputes between the parties, including those involving QSI, the FIP, and professional padel players who have competed in both circuits.
"World Padel Tour is now entering a new phase led by QSI, which will contribute to accelerating the international growth of the circuit. For Damm, it is a source of pride to have contributed to the development of professional padel, making World Padel Tour a global benchmark," stated Demetrio Carceller Arce, CEO of Damm.
Meanwhile, the President of the International Padel Federation, Luigi Carraro, said: "As the governing body of padel worldwide, we are thrilled to see the merger of two great tours into a fantastic global circuit. The International Padel Federation acknowledges Damm for its significant contribution to the sport of padel through the World Padel Tour since its inception in 2013."
Throughout the remainder of the year 2023, the WPT and Premier Padel circuits will continue to operate separately as planned, while efforts are made to unify the competitions for the upcoming year, forming a single global circuit, Premier Padel, starting from 2024.
Damm has reached an agreement with Rucio Investments to acquire its stake in Setpoint Events, the company that owns and manages the international World Padel Tour. In this way, Damm now controls 100% of the ownership and ratifies the firm commitment it took in 2014 for the development and growth of padel and the creation and consolidation of a professional circuit of world reference.
The operation comes after 14 months of collaboration with Rucio Investments in which the main objective of internationalising the World Padel Tour has been achieved, while at the same time reinforcing the actions to support the players in order the Circuit among fans and its brand value.
Proof of this is that the WPT season 2022 is the most international in history thanks to the 29 qualifying tournaments (31 including the Exhibition) in its different formats (Master, Open and Challenger) distributed in 13 different countries, record data that guarantee the most extensive, ambitious and competitive season in the history of professional padel. Also noteworthy is the creation of World Padel Tour, the new communication channel with fans that, as of today, has already surpassed half a million subscribers of the more than 3 million that currently make up the Professional Circuit community.
As part of this new project vision, World Padel Tour has been the first competition in the world to equalise prize money between men and women in all its events in 2022. This is an ambitious step this season to close the gender gap in professional padel. The prize money for women's tournaments has increased by 250% in the Challenger category, 178% in the Open category, 180% in the Masters category and 160% in the Final Masters - unprecedented increases worldwide.
The agreement is the culmination of months of negotiation between the parties and will see QSI acquire the business assets of WPT. In addition, the agreement will also see the resolution of outstanding disputes between the parties, including those affecting QSI, FIP and the professional padel players who have competed in both tours. Closing is subject to customary regulatory approvals.
In recent seasons, there have been significant changes in the competitive realm of professional padel. The growth of the 2010 sport has enabled the coexistence of different circuits such as Premier Padel, World Padel Tour, and A1 Padel among others.
