This is one of the things I plan to change once we get JSON-based crafting recipes in 1.13. While I'm at it, I plan to make it possible to smelt down compasses, clocks, horse armor, and possibly rails.

This is a great idea because Minecraft already supports locking chests, as long as you use commands. Maybe instead of a different type of chest though you could add a padlock. (pretend ghast tears are iron nuggets)

Now when you right click your chest with a padlock it should give you a key to open it and make it only open with that key. Of course you could just break the chest if you lose the key. If you want the same key to open multiple chests you need to name the padlocks the same name using an anvil and if you want to duplicate a key you just put it in crafting with a single iron nugget.

Nether gold ore mined using a pickaxe drops 2-6 gold nuggets. If the pickaxe is enchanted with Fortune, it has a 33.3% chance to multiply the drops by 2, Fortune II has a 25% chance to multiply the drops by 2 or 3 and Fortune III has a 20% chance each to multiply the drops by 2, 3, or 4 for a maximum possible drop of 24 golden nuggets. The average drop rate for a Fortune III pickaxe is 8.8, while the drop rate for a Silk Touch pickaxe is a single ingot, or a flat rate of 9. It is slightly more efficient to mine with a Silk Touch pickaxe.

Gilded blackstone mined using a pickaxe has a 10% chance to drop 2-5 gold nuggets. If the pickaxe is enchanted with Fortune I, the chance gold nuggets drop is increased 14.29%, Fortune II increases the drop chance to 25%, and Fortune III guarantees the drop.

Gold nuggets can be used to craft a golden carrot or glistering melon for brewing. Also, gold nuggets can be combined with gunpowder and dye to create a firework star that bursts in a star-shaped explosion.

Piglins instantly pick up any gold nuggets that are within 1 block of them. Unlike other gold-related items, they do not intentionally seek out gold nuggets to pick up and only pick them up if they walk near it. Unlike gold ingots, gold nuggets picked up are dropped upon the piglin's death.

First, when checking for the amount of gold nuggets in an inventory with /testforblock, I have to specify the amount of gold nuggets I am testing for. However, I want the amount of nuggets you input to be variable, not restricted to a certain stack size. I also want it to be able to work with every slot in the chest, so somebody can fill the whole thing up.

Second, how would I store the amount of nuggets being inputted into the chest and pass that value to /replaceitem so that I replace the correct number of gold nuggets with edited display NBT nuggets?

An Iron Nugget is an item in Minecraft that was added in update 1.11.1. It is made by putting an Iron Ingot into a crafting grid, which breaks down the ingot into nine nuggets, or by smelting iron and chain Armor, or iron tools, in a Furnace. Since iron nuggets can be obtained from iron ingots, they are renewable, since Iron Golems (and occasionally zombies) drop iron ingots upon death. Village chests may contain iron nuggets in them. Iron Nuggets are also used in creating lanterns.
