Notes1. Your device's configuration will not be lost after upgrading, which means you don't need to configure your device again after upgrading.

2. This firmware can be degraded to the previous version.

Adding a new device A good all-round advice would be to start by looking at recent commits about adding a new device, to see what files where changed and how. Many files try to be as self-explanatory as possible, most of the times just opening them...

Adding new device support This article assumes your device is based on a platform already supported by OpenWrt. If you need to add a new platform, see ->add.new.platform If you already solved the puzzle and are looking for device support...

The deco x20 v4 is 1Ghz Dual core Qualcomm IPQ5018 chip. This seems to be chip thats now common for almost all latest versions of Decos. Also the Deco x20 seems to have a recovery page where you can upload a firmware. Could be interesting if anyone is interested as the chip is quite powerful with 2 A53 cores.

Yep. The latest is v4 and v4.6 the original ones (v1) were quad core A53 chips while the latest ones are dual core A53 chips most likely because of chip issues. The Broadcom is bcm6755 I think which is the same one in x20-4g. I had the x20-4G and x20 v4 and the Qualcomm chip x20 was much better at Wi-Fi than Broadcom and in general too at routing probably because of the NPU.

Hello everyone

I want openwrt support for the TP-LINK DECO X20 v1.20/v1.2; it's definitely qualcomm, and it even has its GPL source code released on its website, and maybe because it has same SOC architecture, for some reason it may also be possible to port Openwrt for the DECO X60

As I am 16 years old, I don't have much knowledge about building OpenWRT for this device; I don't have a serial reader, and I can't mess up with the internal parts. The best I can do is do everything possible from the outside; I know the usage of git, know Linux, and have used OpenWRT on my XiaoQiang 1200AC. But I guess it's worth it for doing research on the X20 v1.20 (specifically just 1.20; no confusion, it's using the QCA chipset).

I brought this thinking ill add it to my existing deco mesh network but it doesn't work with jio sim (which is the one I have) it dose with others.

is there any firmware, or setting so I can get this to work?

I've done the usual Google dive tried a few answers I've seen online but nothing has worked and I cant find any more good info.

please can you let me know what I should do before I return it

thanks

@David-TP

Thank you david for your response are you working on the firmware for these models? if so when do you think it will be available?

i really like this and it works well with my deco set-up.

thanks again for your help

It is planned to add Schedule Reboot via firmware upgrade but it might not be the next version. It is suggested to regularly check the firmware release notes on the official website to get updated news.

There isn't much real-world feedback about this modem yet, so thought I'd chip in. The X20-DSL is a new modem/router released around May this year in Aus, not to be confused with the TP-Link "X20" product.

Most settings are adjusted using the TP-Link Deco app, which is quite intuitive. There is still a web interface, but it is more for general info and stats. The majority of functions are done in the app (port forwarding, DNS, etc).

Since WiFi 6 has been out for a while, we happened to have a few devices that were already WiFi 6 compatible, so it's nice to have a DSL modem that supports newer tech.

I haven't noticed any reduction in wifi signal strength compared to my last modem (I switched from wireless broadband to NBN/VDSL), although I'm not in a large house. It's all been stable and I haven't noticed any interface bugs or problems yet.

I bought the X20-DSL recently but unfortunately it has been unable to establish a FTTN (VDSL) connection, my line is not great but I am getting enough to reach my 50/20 plan speed cap on my existing Netcomm modem.

Then as you're on FTTC, you don't need a VDSL2 modem. You just need a router to connect to the NBN connection box.

You can use the (non-DSL) X20 system instead, or one of the other mesh units, or another router.

Router doesn't have the VDSL modem in it. As mentioned, if you have FTTC then you connect your NCD to the X20 (non-DSL version) and you will have the comparable setup as the FTTC NCD does the modem part.

Using Aussie BB, setting are: Other ISP > VDSL > Dynamic IP (or something like that)

I have try tweaking the VDSL settings (over several days, I am very patient) but nothing works and the logs don't provide any clue

I kicked the connection after turning of my current modem, waited 2 hours no connection.

Also tried a node Port Reset

In another test I disconnected from the internet for 12 hours before attempting to the setup again (resetting the X20-dsl before this)

I checked the tech settings on my ISP's homepage (Superloop) as a guide, and the right settings were either automatically detected by the modem or set by default anyway. I'm pretty sure I just had to tap next a couple times in the Deco app, set up a WiFi name/password and done.

Hi I just bought the X20 and received it 4 days ago. This was to replace my Netgear R7800, the Netgear has given my consistent and most of the time reliable wifi but it struggles to reach the top floor and especially at the furthest room at the back ( Plus there is a wall where the stove is and seems to be reducing the wifi even more.)

I figured the mesh can solve this problem. I am using FTTP and so far the wifi coverage is frankly not good and inconsistent.

For example, NEtflix on my mobile device is perfect on entgear but on the x20 it keeps loading and plays for abit and then loads again.

So I tried NEtgear thru the NBN box and plug in the X20 thru the NEtgear and the wifi improved considerably! I really like to get away from using the Netgear and just use the X20 as I spend quite a bit on it

Hey I'm on Exetel FTTN and looking at this product. Wondering if anyone has any further updates particularity with exetel connectivity and also WiFi range. My house is concrete block so 5Ghz Wifi strength isn't great, I'm looking at 3 of these at a max distance of 5 meters apart.

I bought the X20-DSL with two M9 Plus nodes. When I have the X20 set as the main point the Deco app is basically empty. When I tried to set a satellite as the main point the app completely changed to include all of the Homeshield stuff including the speed test. I thought this modem supported Homeshield but I guess not.

I thought I might get a better connection for streaming from my Plex server internally but in retrospect I may have made a mistake. In reality I probably wouldn't have seen much of a difference anyway. I think I just got carried away with how they looked rather than how they would perform. I'd be curious to know if I had the 2 X20 satellites whether I would have access to all of the Homeshield features within the app.

From my testing if the x20 DSL is still setup as the main gateway with 2x X20's satellites you still get Homeshield. If you move the standard x20 to being the router and x20 DSL to being a satellite you lose Homeshield and go back to Homecare only.

Picked up one of these today after our Telstra Smart Modem Gen 1 started restarting randomly. Got Officeworks to do a pricematch with pclive so ended up getting it for $194 so can't complain. Running AussieBB FTTB and couldn't get it to work initially. Manually updated the firmware to 1.0.4 and kicked the connection and it managed to come online. Our Samsung NU8000 tv used to randomly disconnect from the Telstra WiFi so it'll be interesting to see if the new router sorts it. So far the TV seems to connect quicker so fingers are crossed! If we move into a bigger place down the track it's nice to have the capability to add mesh units if needed.

Overall I'd say it "does the job", but the detailed configuration options you normally get in other modem/routers like Asus, Billion, etc. are really missing. The app to configure it is easy enough, but it removes a lot of the detailed configuration options other modems have. For 99% of users, this is probably OK.

This is my exact FTTN experience. Happy with it but the maximum sync speed is lower. I was using the TP-Link WD9960 which was bulletproof but only 2.4g wifi. I went with this unit because I'll look to use the mesh to cover more of our outdoor entertaining areas in the coming months. The app either needs a lot more features or the web config from a desktop needs them all added in. I'm a network admin and power user but I'd recommend this to most people who just need to plug it in and work.
