Regarding
new relaxations on blood donation, we are excited to let you know that:
-
You can now donate till the age of 65 years
- If you are a diabetic, with
blood sugar in normal value range, on oral medication and not on insulin, you
can still donate blood
- If you suffer from hypertension, you can donate
provided you are not on injectables and your blood pressure in normal value
range.
For those suffering from low levels of haemoglobin, below are tips
to increase your levels over the next week before the blood camp:-
-
Vitamin C helps the body to absorb more iron, so make sure you eat plenty of
oranges, berries, mangoes, tomatoes, broccoli, spinach and other dark green
leafy vegetables.
- Fruits rich in iron include bananas, apples, dark grape,
apricots, plums, raisins and strawberries. Bananas are particularly beneficial
as they also contain, besides easily assailable iron folic acid and vitamin B-
12 both of which are extremely useful in the treatment of anaemia.
- Dried
beans, lentils, chickpeas, soyabeans, nuts and iron fortified cereals.
-
Have plenty of beetroot, carrot and drink grape juice almost daily
-
Fenugreek (Methi) tip: Cook one teaspoon of fenugreek seeds (methi) with your
evening meal every night, preferably with a little rice, to help increase
hemoglobin levels AND also lowers blood glucose levels in
diabetics.
