We’ve been noticing how we continually add concepts to the present moment.
A poem doesn’t explain that — it enacts it.

The poem bypasses seeking.
The structure bypasses analysis.
The silence allows recognition.

It becomes an event, not a discussion.

As a writer and a student of Language and Literature I love this idea.

Although, I will say that I think poetry is really just another flavor of languaging.  In critical Literature theory, we have a category called "Reader Response Criticism", that essentially says that you bring your own perspective to the reading of a text.  But isn't this also true when we walk into an art gallery and look at a piece of art, or hear a song on the radio?  There are some tunes that most of us would probably enjoy, and others where one person sees awfulness, while another sees brilliance.  But I think what you are pointing at, Jeff, is that initial movement of the words potentially opening something for us internally, no?

Since we are talking poetry, I offer you, e.e. cummings "silence"

------------------------------
silence

.is
a
looking

bird:the

turn
ing;edge,of
life

(inquiry before snow
-------------------------------

Please note that there are no typos there, cummings is very intentional about use of line breaks, punctuation, etc.  It is almost like a koan because usually you can't find the words, just a feeling of staring off into the abyss, because it doesn't follow any poetic format.

Anyway, happy Friday, friends!

Rob, I love your point—meaning arises between the poem and the reader. Each poem is a space of co-creation: it meets us, we meet it, and something unique emerges. In the group, perhaps each poem can be a small opening, felt differently by each of us, yet shared in noticing.
