Don't forget to file I-131. Even though it's not required, it's recommended to file since it's free, even with if you have no plans to leave the country. With the I-131, you will need 6 passport photos.

Just send him a photo of yourself with a little extra room on them, and there are plenty of ways to take your image and get passport photos made. My fiancee sent me a photo of herself, and I cranked out a few passport photos for the I129, and wrote her name and date on the back and sent the petition in. Scanned copy of your intent to marry letter is fine also, as you will be bringing updated intent to marry letters to the interview more than likely.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!! Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!

You're from Canada, so this may not be the case for you, but for those of us whose partner is farther away or from somewhere with less reliable or more expensive mail... the fastest (and most efficient, and what we did) is to get the image file from whoever took the picture, and then have it printed here (if you've got a photo printer and photo paper at home, that's fine, otherwise you can use an online photo print service or a store; I had my fiancee's pictures printed at Walmart.com because they were the first place I found that had a native passport-style picture option; cost $8, was ready for pick up in an hour).

You must submit one color passport-style photograph of yourself and one color passport-style photograph of the beneficiary taken within 30 days of filing this petition. The photos must have a white to off-white background, be printed on thin paper with a glossy finish, and be unmounted and unretouched.

The color passport-style photos must be 2 by 2 inches. The photos must be in color with full face, frontal view on a white to off-white background. Head height should measure 1 to 1 3/8 inches from top of hair to bottom of chin, and eye height is between 1 1/8 to 1 3/8 inches from bottom of photo. Your head must be bare unless you are wearing headwear as required by a religious denomination of which you are a member. Using a pencil or felt pen, lightly print your name and A-Number (if any) on the back of the photo.

I've read many things about submitting passport style photos for the I-129f petition. I've already spent over $20 trying to get them done at the local CVS (although they didn't seem too experienced.) There are a couple things I was worried about and I've heard conflicting views...

My fiance has an off white background that looks kinda beige when I picked them up...I retouched the background and I just wanted to know if this was the safer option? (I need to get them redone with a glossy finish. Looks like they don't accept matte anymore)

Thanks for the tip! I snapped a picture of my photo using my phone from far away for this post, so I'm not surprised it's blurry. I was mostly just worried about the conflicting views I've heard about the ears being more important for visa purposes than passports. Also the efinition of "off-white" since the photo printed must darker. I'm probably just overthinking it.

I recommend that you both shave your heads so your ears are visible. Also, your fiance should have his facial hair waxed. I would then grease his face so it is shinier. He may also want to think about a tuxedo.

At FedEx Office, get two government-compliant, 2" x 2" photos to submit with your passport application. Both the Form I-130 and Form I-129F petitions require that you file passport-style photographs of the U.S. petitioner and foreign beneficiary. To avoid needless delay, make sure your photographs comply with the required specifications.
USCIS adopts photograph guidelines used by the Department of State, available here.

The passport-style photographs need to be submitted with your initial petition (Form I-130 or Form I-129F). Under current guidelines, you no longer need to submit any original documents from the foreign national with that packet. This means that your spouse/fiancee can potentially send you all of the required supporting documents electronically, saving you the expense and time of international shipping.

Instead of having your spouse/fiancee mail you the passport-style photograph, a more efficient approach is to send a digital copy. You can ask a local drug store or photo studio to reprint it for you. Or if you have access to a high-quality color printer, you can do so yourself on glossy photo stock paper. There are a number of free online utilities that can help you resize the photograph to appropriate dimensions: and

Yesterday, I was trying to get a few passport sized photos for some purpose. I realized that getting the photos shot and printed at CVS is a pretty expensive affair. Each set would have cost around $13. I wanted to explore a cheaper option. After some research, here's what I found.

You can shoot the photos for ID at home. Be thorough in your reading on the requirements on background and whether you can wear spectacles. Ideally, a plain white background is a good start. Ensure that you take the picture at a time when there is sufficient natural sunlight. Do ensure that there are no shadows as that will invalidate the picture in many instances.

Once you have the picture ready, crop the photo using this nifty tool: From my reading, you are better off if the face is a bit zoomed in than being zoomed out. So keep that in mind. This tool will automatically resize the photo for a 2 x 2 inches.

Normally, most print services don't offer a 2x2 size. So it is a good idea to prepare a 6 photo set to fill the standard 2x6 in paper. Head to and upload the photo you created in step 2. Don't crop any section. Choose the passport style, target paper size and then download the prepared photo.

Once you have the photo ready, submit the photo for print online. Avoid visiting the shop and submitting at the kiosk. When I visited a CVS kiosk, it gave me a quote of $13+ for a single 2x6 paper. I could have used wrong options but, this amount seemed too expensive. When I submitted from home, the prices were starting at $0.18. That's a HUGE saving. Online tools are also more easier to use than kiosk - at least that is my opinion.
