When we got the first computer on our hands, as a kid, we were intrigued with MS paint. It was the one application that made us aware that digitally we could unleash our creativity. All of us, especially the 90s kids were a bit disheartened when we learned that Microsoft will stop supporting MS paint very soon, in order to promote Paint 3D, that comes with windows 10. Although Paint is still available in Windows, eventually Microsoft plans to remove it permanently and only keep it as a Windows store product for users who still wants to use MS Paint.
Paint is a simple raster graphics editor that has been included with all versions of Microsoft Windows. The program opens, modifies and saves image files in Windows bitmap (BMP), JPEG, GIF, PNG, and single-page TIFF formats. The program can be in color mode or two-color black-and-white, but there is no grayscale mode. For its simplicity and wide availability, it rapidly became one of the most used Windows applications, introducing many to painting on a computer for the first time.
The version of Paint in Windows 7 and later features a ribbon in its user interface.[10] It also features "artistic" brushes composed of varying shades of gray and some degree of transparency that give a more realistic result. To add to the realism, the oil and watercolor brushes can only paint for a small distance before the user must re-click (this gives the illusion that the paintbrush has run out of paint). In addition, Paint can now undo up to 50 subsequent changes. It also has anti-aliased shapes, which can be resized freely until they are rasterized when another tool is selected. This version supports viewing (but not saving) transparent PNG and ICO file formats and saves files in the .png file format by default.
I cannot open my microsoft paint and the same pop up keeps occurring. Adobe Acrobat cannot start the image editing application you've specified. Verify the image editing application location on the Content Editing panel in Preferences".
That just sounds software related, if youre really concerned you can try to update paint or get paint.net from microsoft, slow shapes in paint is by no means a performance indicator for modern technology
I come from a windows background and am very familiar with the simple 'paint' application; I am searching for an equivalent app for my Mac. I have downloaded [free] 'paintbrush for Mac' from the internet but find that it does not have the tools which MS Paint has, and more importantly, I can work only with 2 colors...white an black. Can anyone point out to me any free download that allows me to work in color too?
Thanks for your reply. You have given the correct instruction as to how one can add color in paintbrush. However, I feel [I have not experimented fully yet with this] that it does not allow one to draw straight lines [shift>drag]. I have used Microsoft's Paint to draw diagrams to scale. If there are ways to get this feature of drawing straight lines in this app, please let me know.
Thanks a lot for your suggestion. I looked up the site you had referred. The features are to my need 'high-end'. I need something which allows very basic tools which a low end version of Microsoft's paint offers.
Why are you afraid of applications that use layers? Layers are one of the easier concepts of both drawing and painting apps to understand and use. Think of layers as multiple sheet of clear paper or thin sheets of clear plastic that you can draw or paint on. You can build up a drawing or painting by putting different elements on different layers. If you want to alter elements on a layer only that layer gets affected. If you don't alike what you did on a layer, you can erase an entire layer and start drawing or painting on that layer, again, or delete the layer entirely. You can, also, more easily move elements around on a layer more easily that having all the elements on a drawing or painting on one layer.
Further thanks for this additional info. Did get the color working. Shall try out straight lines. Having got used for so many years to MS Paint, I need to get familiar with this or any other similar app on Mac. Right now I have downloaded sketchbookexpress which is a free download from apple store. This seems to be more grand than paintbrush. Let me find out!?
I'm a new member on the paint.net community, my username is 'SvSlazer18'. Anyway, i would like to request a plugin that functions like this: Have you ever tried to shift drag in microsoft paint? It creates a weird effect, and that's exactly what i'm aiming for. That's how i want it to function: Basically, the plugin creates random rectangular selections and drags them in random directions with different force, creating that effect that i mentioned. It would be convenient if the plugin had the ability to able the user to customly set the value of selections, the direction of the dragging and the quantity of dragging. I don't know how plugins are made, so i may be asking something extremely difficult to do, but please at least hear my idea. (There should be an image that shows clearly what i'm talking about).
Concha Garcia Zaera is an 87-year-old grandmother who was inspired by other MS Paint artists, deciding to put aside the expensive paint brushes, canvases and paints in favour of the software. Her paintings are incredibly stunning and it is a delight to be able to see someone from a different generation utilize this medium so well.
