1) Is a 100 ohm resistor helpful to have in the data line between Pi and LEDs? In an Arduino project I just completed using WS2812B LEDs, it was pretty much a must to have a 200-300 ohm resistor on data line. Similar situation here? I saw someone mention in a thread few years ago about the benefits of having a resistor. No harm in having, right?
2) The capture card the video links and what seems very popular for this project does not output in compliance with HDCP 2.3 and only does 1.4. This prevents 4K Netflix on my PS4 Pro using the loop back output.
I used splitter to split the signal to TV and the capture device. The capture device forwards on to the Pi. But I do remember later seeing I could have done it with one device. Basically same as linked capture card but a 4k HDR HDCP 2.2 version. Worked out a bit cheaper than having the two devices.
I have not updated Hyperion since I've installed it on the Pi as I worried it will break something. And it's been working fine so didn't want to attract any more headache. Not sure which version I'm on, I can check when I'm home. I just ignore the update notification.
Yes, as I wrote above, this would defeat the purpose of the encryption. So you can only access the content using a datapath capture card WITH a datapath video output card -meaning not in TD(!) - you can only output it directly to a screen from the datapath video card using datapath drivers.
Totally agree. I spent weeks looking for another solution, but this was the only option. In the end all I could do was chuckle that in a multimillion dollar project with only top-of-the-line gear, somewhere in one of the racks a small $20 chinese splitter plays a small but essential part
The listing never had comments. The trouble with the listing you have there is that there are a bunch of sellers throwing up different 1x2 splitter models and then people comment on them without specifying who sold it to them.
I did apply your advice globally, but also using comments to verify. Yes, many complain about Amazon's nilly-willy mismatching of comments to "related products". They now seem to be adding the titles of the original products from where the comments came, which is a help.
So, is your above link the actual name of the seller "CVID", from who you found a working splitter? No point throwing away money on one without the full functionality they suggest -- Blu-ray, PS3, etc.
Like the Amazon reviews, some are finding models that once worked are not working in later shipments -- indicating different versions with less capabilities. However, someone in the last pages of the thread found that the Sewell splitter does work. It may be another good link ... at this point in time anyway. :)
Thanks for your answer. I already read all above messages from this topic and.... to be honest, I'm only a vet MD, and all this technical details are a little to much for me. I just want to buy a device that could be built-in a PC desktop (that I already own) with last gen Intel i7, W8 and tons of RAM (32 GB) and memory ( 2x 2TB).
What do you think about the Speed Demos Archive forum's thread I mentioned earlier? There's allot of activity there (regarding BlackMagic and other capture cards) and the mixed results with various splitters -- where some previously working boxes seemingly have been updated to be non-working, as regards taming HDCP.
I won't start to believe any claims of "updates" unless someone comes forward who CANNOT capture HDCP through the splitter to their BM device but CAN capture non-HDCP sources through the splitter to their BM device.
OK I have read through this and all this is very confusing and most all the links are dead because of linking to ebay, can you post links to an actual Store next time where items can be purchased or seen?
So we have a lot of projects lined up and some we still need good video for, namely Return of The Living Dead 2, I am not worried about audio because most of the titles we need for projects are only 2 channel anyways and we usually get the audio from the DVD or even the LD, in this case the LD, well I see Vudu has the HDX version available for PC download now, so how can I get this video? please if anyone knows how or can provide it to us we can make this project happen, someone was going to provide me with an how to video but he never came through, he said he does it through his PS3 somehow, but anyways any info on this would be a huge help to us and future cool projects.
I've determined the model numbers for all the cards I had listed now (not sure how I missed a couple of them in the descriptions before). So you can search on eBay ("include description") or elsewhere for those numbers.

I've yet to see a PC that plays back Netflix without a frame drop somewhere, and I'm guessing Vudu is the same. Not to say it's impossible but I don't trust computers as the source for video capturing.
Now this would be great, but I would have to buy the program and then buy the HDX video and hope it all works, wish there was a way to know for sure before all the spending, I already spend 1 hell of a lot on the projects we do lol.
I bought a 4 way splitter last week that looks exactly the same as yours, and a Timeleak hd70a. installed the card and connected the splitter and tried both pinnacle studio 15 and honestech HD DVR 2.5 and no device is being recognised.
There are many options of video capture devices on the market now, but due to the HDCP protection, most of users encounter a lot of difficulties when using these video capture cards to record their favorite videos. This article mainly introduces how to Strip HDCP of ClonerAlliance and some other brands of video capture devices on the market.
But I believe that some of you who have already paid for a video capture device may not want to pay to buy a splitter to solve the HDCP problem. Since purchasing an HDMI splitter and additional necessary cables will increase the cost and also may bring some trouble. This leads to a question, How to bypass or strip HDCP without buying an HDMI splitter to remove HDCP?
Open PassDCP is a free utility software for you to crack various video capture devices and strip the HDCP protection from the devices. Up to now, Open PassDCP has supported to Crack ClonerAlliance products and remove HDCP protection from them. With the development of the next version, Open PassDCP will support more brands of products.
How to bypass or strip HDCP without buying an HDMI splitter to remove HDCP? How to use Open PassDCP to strip HDCP? How to record 4K UHD streaming hit movies and tv shows without PC required? Why does the TV display a black screen when I try to use a video capture card to record the video output from the Roku or the Blu-ray disc player?
Basically the situation is I have a PS3 and I want to be able to split a lossless HDMI connection to my TV and something to a capture card. Using an HDMI splitter I can connect to the TV just fine but my capture card does not read HDCP.
I could use a component splitter but that would prevent me from being able to use HDMI quality video/audio on the TV, and not using HDMI as the source means my setup is more complicated; I have other sources (like my Wii U) where I have to use HDMI.
How how can I record from this HDCP HDMI in? I can take HDMI without HDCP or component video, but my searches have been unable to find to find something that either converts HDMI (with HDCP) to component or takes HDMI and spits out something non-HDCP devices can read.
For the record I know of one device that does this: The HDFury4/3. However, the HDFury3 is about $150 above what I'm currently willing to pay, I'm just looking for something barebones. I have seen numerous other devices claiming to do things like convert HDMI to component but they either have multiple 1 star reviews saying "this doesn't work at all" or they have no reviews at all. I'd rather be reasonably confidence before purchasing something like this since it seems like there are a lot of solutions which simply don't do what I need them to.
You would need a device that supports HDCP if your output source is utilizing it. That's the entire point of the system. The video signal is encrypted and will only exchange the data with a device which can cryptographically authenticate itself as an authorized HDCP receiver. Getting that certificate requires proving that they are going to follow the rules on what can and can't be done with the content (such as not allowing it to be recorded.)
Occasionally codes are cracked, but these codes are then removed from the valid list of codes in future products and they won't work on newer material until another code is broken. It is also worth pointing out that (unfortunately), if you live in the US at least, such bypassing is illegal in the United States according to the DMCA which specifically prevents bypassing protective measures even if the use would be fair use.
It looks like it may also be possible to connect the PS3 to a non-HDCP device, which would prevent it from using HDCP. If that is the case, then if you could find a device that isn't HDCP compatible or that can strip the HDCP information, then you could get an unprotected stream and do an end run around DMCA limitations. You may have to do a soft-reset of the PS3 to get it to recognize a non-HDCP TV if it was previously attached to an HDCP one however since it starts up in the same mode it was in for the previous display.
