When SVGA driver removal is done manually from Control Panel, temporary msi is created in c:\Windows\Installer folder and installation is run as if VMware Tools are mounted but that does not help me much either. Also servers can have different VMware Tools versions so even if I would use msi of VMware Tools in System Center Configuration Manager several msi files would be needed to cover all versions out there (other team manages vSphere environment but looks like they do not care too much about having all VMs with latest VMware Tools version) and I would have to query system to retrieve VMware Tools version and call corresponding msi with switches to remove SVGA driver.

actually had this problem on an upgrade from 2012 server core to 2016 server core. When you go into the panther directory (c:\windowsBT/soruces/Panther) you will find an HTML file where it displays this. I guess server core does not have the ability to display html files.

Anyways it was fixed by re running setup.exe as "setup.exe /compat ignorewarning", after mounting the datastore ISO of server 2016. This allows the install to complete in my case and bypass the vmware error.

For me what stopped my install, was the vmware video card adapter being apparently incompatible with windows 10. There is an HTML file in the panther directory on the machine (/c$/$WINDOWS.BT/Sources/Panther/ActionableReport.html) where it displays the error "this device isn't compatible in windows 10. contact the manufacturer for more info" and "VMware SVGA 3d (you'll have a problem with your display in windows 10)".

Check the panther directory for logs to as exactly why the install fails if you have a similar problem. This particular bug has been around on search engines since 2015, but mostly seemed to affect people who were trying to upgrade windows 10. Hard to believe it is still a bug, as pretty much everyone would be using vmware, its not some fly by night company or driver.

Final thoughts
- With the vmware display drivers (xf86-driver-vmware) I don't get ideal results. For some reason it starts in 1368x768 (yes, 1368!). However xrandr reveals it supports 1366x768, and once I xrandr --size into it, all is fine. Dunno why this happens.

Does the windows 10 anniversary update and the new driver framework allow you to mirror the virtual-screen in vmware? After installing all the requirements my win10 (1607) does see the displaylink and i'm able to extend the destop to a physical screen, but the mirroring option is unavailable in windows.

The vGPU mode of access is available to a VM if you have installed the NVIDIA vGPU Host Driver, referred to in the NVIDIA docs as the vGPU Manager, directly on the ESXi server on which the VM is to be placed. This is done as a VIB installation process onto ESXi. You get the NVIDIA vGPU Host driver with the NVIDIA AI Enterprise Suite package.

After you assign a vGPU profile to a VM, you then power on the VM. It is automatically placed by DRS onto an appropriate host server that has a GPU, if there is one. At this point, you install the Guest OS vGPU Driver - driver #2.

I did two w2008 r2 servers to the new wddm driver.
One server worked great, and the other server does not display video(black screen) but RDP works fine as indicated by a previous message. I tried to revert back, but receive message that system has determined the best driver is already installed. Any thoughts?

Im stuck on 17.7.2 because its the last version that didn't block the install and it works and all but its also outdate by a lot. If I knowen AMD blocked the driver install I would have bought a NV 1050ti over the MSI RX 560 Nitro (4gig) solely because of drivers.. (my server requires a GPU due to the fact there zero integrated video, due to being Xeon cpu). So it was either 1 or the other at 75watt or lower is what I was stuck with in chooses..

Ive just learned this the hard way. Built a vega server system from scratch on the assumption that drivers would installs on windows server 2016, i mean why not right? ive lost so much money I am thinking about legal action. Im sorry but the software team should be ashamed to do this to people, just terrible. Why AMD? just why?

This has been a thorn since forever. There is a way to use driver 19.2 with an edit to the installer config files. Beyond that no-go. That does not mean that amd does not mean to support server 2016. If you want a recent graphics board that has real driver support, get a radeon pro board. It won't have the high power multiple fans. Probably not the high end graphics features that you might want if you are a gamer. And it will cost you more than a gamer board. The thing about that is that server 2016 is the most stable gaming os I have found. Not sure about 2019.

I have a long IT / support history on the windows desktop side of things but this is my first time setting up a server. How, or where do I get drivers for the hardware inside this machine? My main concern is the BIOS / firmware and device drivers for the motherboard and ICH10 storage controller.

I recently picked up one of these also to learn on since I am studying to become a network admin. My school gives me access to windows server 2016 and 2019. I already know 2019 isn't gonna work, but I figured I might be able to get 2016 to work. I can install it fine but it is missing 2 drivers. How did you go about with your situation, I can find that disc they were talking about, but I don't see anything about installing drivers.
