I love dicomplyer however as far as I understand dicompyler will stop working once I upgrade to the new macOS Catalina (version 10.15) tonight since it is only 32 bit. Are there any plans to release a 64 bit version? any suggestions regarding alternative software?

thank you

Hello,

Thanks for the kind words. You are correct, Catalina won't support any 32-bit apps such as the latest version of dicompyler.

Here is something I have been thinking about for a while and your question puts it into perspective:

As you know this project is purely a hobby and to keep it going requires ongoing time and maintenance. For example, I need to install Catalina myself as well as test it on previous versions of macOS. Repeat for Windows and Linux.

Something else to consider is what the community really wants from dicompyler - is it the DICOM RT viewer functionality, plugin capability or something else? Is open source important or is it the application itself?

Finally, you are more than welcome to try other DICOM RT software, but most of them require a license to fund ongoing development or are backed by grants via their authors. dicompyler has none of these.

In summary, I see this project moving in 2 directions:
- paid version with same features and ongoing support
- open source version backed via Patreon donations
Both have pros and cons.

I would love to see dicompyler continue on in some form but it has to make sense from a commitment standpoint.

Adit

understood
I would be willing to pay something

just to let you know how I use it: we are running a clinical mutlicenter trial. We have subsites upload plans into dropbox and then I open them in dicompyler to approve them (as a QA measure). This way I avoid the hospital's firewalls and can work outside of Eclipse.

if you know of any Mac alternatives in the meantime please let me know...

First of all, thanks to Aditya Panchal, I got tremendous help from your dicompyler.
I would be willing to pay to support a 64bit-compatible dicompyler + My usage has been mostly as the DICOM RT viewer.

Do you have any hints/comments/things to consider if I want to fix this issue in the open-source code?
