Hi,

I was wondering if it would be within the intended use of the "Icon Image Sequence" (0088,0200) to have a stylized representation of the image using symbols or a pictogram, an actual icon therefore, rather than a minimized version of the image?

The following example represents a mammography image based on its view + image type + laterality, a 2D L-MLO in this case:
L-MLO.JPG

The inclusion of text would be an extension to my primary concern.

Thanks & Regards,
Peter

Hi, Peter

As far as I know, Icon Image is supposed to be a preview of main Pixel Data. Though some Application Profiles recommend which slice an icon should be created from, the standard does not restrict you from using any image you want. So, you may write a pictogram.

FYI: Almost all DICOM reading software I know ignore Icon Image and use a slice from main Pixel Data as preview.

Sincerely,
Vitaliy
