Can anyone help with examples of what values of "Referenced SOP Class UID" might be used in a "Referenced Patient Sequence"?

Most examples of Referenced SOP Class UIDs I've seen are related to images (so image storage SOP class UIDs apply), but not clear on what applies to patients unless it is also the relevant image SOP classes for that patient, or a nod to something like "Patient Root Query/Retrieve Information Model - FIND".

Thanks!
Allison

Hi Allison

1. It seems unlikely you would have a Patient-related UID to reference in the first
place, so why would you be wanting to populate Referenced Patient Sequence? Identifying
patients by a UID has not proven to be useful/popular.

2. Detached Patient Management SOP Class (Retired) "1.2.840.10008.3.1.2.1.1".

For a similar situation for studies, there is a specific note about it:

https://dicom.nema.org/medical/dicom/current/output/chtml/part03/sect_10.6.html#sect_10.6.1

but that is important, since references to Studies by their UID are actually used.

Appears my response didn't come through from email to the forum, so adding it here:

Hi David,
I was working on creating a worklist example for testing that would encompass most things we as a modality would encounter in talking to a variety of worklist servers and the Referenced Patient Sequence is part of

Table K.6-1. Attributes for the Modality Worklist Information Model

under Visit Relationship.

Sounds like this is something we’re unlikely to encounter.  Thanks also for the link to the note on the studies.
