Mountain View Farm is a spectacular setting for one of the most important events of your life. Inside and outside options are available.

Please note: you must order a copy (a.k.a. license/usage fee) for every person participating in the simulation in your course. This simulation has multiple roles, so you will be unable to complete your purchase without meeting the minimum quantity requirement of copies per role.

You may order this role simulation in either soft copy (electronic) or hard copy (paper) format. If you select the soft copy option, you will receive an e-mail with a URL (website address) from which you may download an electronic file in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. You will have one week to download your materials from when you receive the email. You are then only authorized to use, print, or share the materials as many times as the number of copies you purchase. The TNRC charges for use of this simulation on a per-participant basis. Therefore, you must purchase a separate copy of this simulation for each person who will be participating, regardless of the number of roles in the simulation. You will only receive a link to one electronic file, which includes all general instructions, confidential instructions, and any teaching notes for the simulation. You should separate out the instructions before distributing to participants.

In the event that the number of participant copies you order is not evenly divisible by the number of roles in the simulation, you will receive extra copies of one or more roles. Participants receiving the extra roles may partner with other participants playing the same role, thus negotiating as a team. So, for instance, if you ordered 31 copies of a 2-party role simulation, you would receive 15 copies of the first role and 16 copies of the second role. One of the participants playing the second role would partner with another participant playing that same role, and the two would negotiate as a team.

A Vermont farmer somewhat interested in the possibility of expanding activities has considered going into maple syrup production, wood cutting, or increasing the farmer's cow herd. The farmer's neighbor is a person from Boston who only comes up on occasional weekends and holidays and is currently interested in selling or leasing at least part of the property. In preliminary discussions, the two have differed significantly on their assessments of the land owned by the Bostonian, but have agreed to meet and discuss the situation further.

This exercise is usually conducted one-on-one for about 45-60 minutes. With a bit more time, participants can be asked to spend some time drafting a written agreement. Communication with unresponsive parties can be explored in review by modeling a typically smart, but cautious Vermont farmer of few words. Review should take from 60-90 minutes. Asking each participant silently to jot down the points of their agreement usually highlights the imprecision and ambiguity of most oral negotiations.

From time to time, the Teaching Negotiation Resource Center asks PON-affiliated faculty to nominate their top five books, top five teaching videos or top five role-play simulations in certain fields or teaching settings. These change periodically.

Bryan and Lindsey got married at Mountain View Farm in Mt Solon, Virginia. They got to enjoy the first of the Shenandoah Valley fall foliage with their early October wedding weekend. Lindsey was previously a wedding planner and owns her own custom crafts and cupcakes business, so I knew the details were going to be so well done! Mountain View Farm lived up to the name. The weather blessed us with amazing views of the sunset in the valley. Virginia has so many amazing wedding venues, but some of these small rural spots are my favorite! Best of all, they prioritized wedding photography in their planning, so I got to give them a gorgeous collection of wedding portraits.

Lindsey had a vision for her wedding, and she absolutely executed! Through her custom item company, Wandering Lou LLC, she created all the signage and wedding invitations, her reception cupcakes, custom boutonnires and corsages, and many of the dcor items you see in the reception. She designed the perfect Virginia fall wedding aesthetic, with velvet textures, vintage glassware, and pampas grass elements for their modern boho wedding arch. The leaf etching on their sweetheart table echoed the fall focus, as well as the seeds and nuts in the wedding favors. The colors in the florals and wedding details mirrored the gorgeous sunset in Mt Solon that evening!

I loved my experience working at Mountain View Farm. First, the views are gorgeous! The name rings true. We had a spectacular spot on a hill up above the venue to capture wedding portraits with the entire grounds in the background. The leaves began to turn just before their wedding weekend, giving them the first of the fall foliage.

Second, the layout of the venue and welcoming staff make it extremely easy to work there. The bride and groom had separate places to get ready for their day. The planning team was able to set up the ceremony and reception spaces simultaneously, making it easy for me to photograph all the details before the day began. Plus, all the buildings on the property are just steps from one another. I was able to move between parts of the day without wasting transition time. It was a logistical dream!

Valley Road Vineyards is a mountain winery wedding venue with 360 views of the blue ridge, a large barn with a neutral interior, and ample green space. The designated outdoor ceremony space overlooks the Rockfish Valley and adjacent vineyard.

A small farm located east of Rorikstead, full of rustic decor and coupled with a beautiful view of the mountains. Enjoy the sound of the nearby river and stream, play hide and seek with your kids around the fields, or relax on your grand porch. Have a nice rest with your family after your travels: you've earned it!

We stayed in the Waterford room which was really large and had such great Vermont character. I love these historic inns because nothing is cookie cutter. Each and every room is as unique as a fingerprint.

We were sitting under the big white tent when a rain storm moved in. We were cozy and dry under the tent and I loved relaxing and listening to the rain fall on the roof. The kids took turns racing out through the fields getting themselves drenched in the process.

The Inn is a part of the Kingdom Trails Network, which is hugely popular with mountain bikers. We thought we were the only ones around until the rain came and bikers came out of the woodwork looking for cover.

In the morning, we came downstairs to fresh out-of-the-oven pastries and hot coffee. The dining room has this huge picture window that looks out over the farm. We were served blueberry pancakes that were to die for. Once we were completely stuffed, we went out to see one of the real highlight of the property, the animal sanctuary!

The owner of the inn, Dr. John Pastore, is also a great animal lover. After rescuing two donkeys from a fair in 2003, the Mountain View Farm Animal Sanctuary was born. He has continued to rescue animals from bad situations and now has a menagerie of animals that call the farm their home.

We were told that we could go into the vegetable garden and let the kids pick something which was a real treat for the boys. They learned about gardening at summer camp and have been begging to plant their own vegetable garden. I let them each pick a carrot which they brought home as a souvenir.

The Inn at Mountain View Farm is a very popular wedding venue. We were given a tour of the reception barn and it was so beautiful, I found myself begging my 5-year-old to get married there. One large table ran down the center of the historic horse barn and there was a table set up in each of the stalls.

The Inn at Mountain View Farm is the perfect place for a romantic weekend away with a partner or a family trip with kids. Let your kids run the fields, get dirty and have an organic childhood. It is a perfect location if you want to go hiking, mountain biking or just simply be still and soak up the beauty around you.

I hope you feel inspired to travel with your children. We will continue to showcase family friendly destinations and tell you about products that take the stress out of travel. Thanks so much for stopping by!
