Firstof all, I have to say one of my favorite parts about Class Dojo is the iPhone app because my aides can have it on their phone and log in. We are all able to provide positive and negative reinforcement to our students. My aides go to specials and lunch with my students so even when I am not with my class, my aides are able to provide the direct reinforcement. They can be consistent with or without me in the room and consistency goes a looong way with my kiddos!
In the past I have used a variety of classroom management techniques and nothing has ever been as motivating to my kids as Class Dojo. Class Dojo is ideal in a special education classroom because it incorporates the green and red reinforcement system which is a research based behavior intervention THAT WORKS!
that all parents will log into Class Dojo and I am a big believer in strong home-school communication, especially when it comes to behavior. So I came up with a system to incorporate Class Dojo with my color chart so we could have all hands on deck. Here is the information that I send home to parents to explain how it all unfolds in our classroom.
Question? If a student was on the blue with 15 points and then received 3 red points, he would move down one color. Correct? So now he is on green. How many green points would he have to receive to move back to blue? I love this idea, and I want to make sure I understand it completely before I try to implement it into my classroom.
I think the way you are using it is great and we had that experience with one child and one teacher, but now we have a different teacher using it as a public shaming tool and is documenting pretty much red behaviors and not enough green behaviors (of a child that in all their years of school I have been told they with they could clone that child because they are so well behaved). I don't even know how to talk to this teacher about this because she already seems to negative on classdojo. I am very strongly considering pulling my child out to homeschool because I am concerned what this is going to do to them (emotionally). Because this teacher comes across as very negative on classdojo I fear she will become even more critical of my child than this teacher already is. I wish they would use it the way you use it and this other teacher used it if they are going to use it and not as a punishment tool.
Great ideas! I will definitely be implementing some of these ideas in my classroom next school year. Can you provide a link to download/purchase your behavior chart where the students move up and down? Thank you!
Hi, I love how you set up your dojo. I teach bilingual kindergarten and this will be my first time implementing dojo. I have a question. What variation can I do for think time since my students cannot write at least for the first semester? Also, what happens after they reach 100? do they start again?
LOVE LOVE LOVE! I just purchased your Class Dojo behavior system on TPT. This is perfect! I actually started out the year with class dojo and was running into the same problem that you were with having to constantly give students points and ended up moving back to a regular clip chart. Thank you!
I am going to be moving to a 4th grade bilingual classroom next year and I definately want to try this out. I was wondering about the actual points in Dojo. At the end of the day you said that you give the points. How are the points given in Dojo? Is it labeled like your clip charts? I am a little confused.

I always do my daily high scorer gets to pick form the treasure chest! Then I used the data features to track and make sure everyone got a chance at experiencing that! I heart Class Dojo and love what you have done with it to make it more meaningful for your kids!
How did you award the points? Did the students give themselves the points and Dojo was on the smartboard all day or did you do the points yourself? Trying to work the bugs out as to how to give points. I'm desperately trying to get away from my clip chart. I use Dojo when I'm out of the room and I record +/- on my iPad and transfer it to my clip chart. I'm just wondering how others award the points as to not disrupt class too very much but allow the students the joy of giving themselves points. Thanks!!!
I have just started using Class Dojo and was wanting to make it work with a class economy. I am loving how you make it work for your class, but I have a question about your 500 points class movie reward. Do the 500 points come from one student or can multiple students chip in on this rewards?
Can you tell me how the students know how many points to record each day? If I remember correctly Class Dojo displays the total cumulative number of points for each student. To get a daily report you would have to go into a separate report for each child. Please share if there is an easier way as I would really like my students to keep a daily record. Thank you for your help =)
I used this exactly the same with my students! How do you get the dojo points to disappear once they spend their points? Do you individually delete out 75 points? Or did you figure out a way to keep track of it? That is what I struggle with most on Dojo.
In my classroom everyone has a job. I firmly believe this has made my kids more responsible and accountable. Everyone in my class feels included every day because they know that they have a duty that helps the class run more smoothly. At the beginning of the year we discuss my job as a teacher and what would happen if I did my job correctly or incorrectly. We brainstormed character traits of a hard worker on an anchor chart.
The kids choose their top three choices and then write WHY they want their choice. I love the contract part on the back page. We discuss how you are making a commitment to helping our community, so if you do not get the job you were hoping, there is always next six weeks to re-apply.

I love class dojo! I was using dojo with Whole Brain Teaching using the super improvers wall. I am not sure that will work for this coming up Kider group so I LOVE this idea! I really do want to encourage my parents to check more! GREAT IDEAS!
LOVE this post! I use tickets in my classroom along with a clip chart and it is very effective. However, I really like your whole "job" system. It definitely teaches them responsibility. Also, the coupons are more convenient and inexpensive than constantly filling up my treasure box. I have been looking into the dojo points. I've heard about them but have never seen them in action. (I am going to your dojo post now to read up on it) Thank you for this post. I am excited about implementing something similar in my classroom. One question; I am a bit confused as to how you pay them.. every single student gets 25$ a week? Or does this change depending on behavior?
I absolutely love the ideas in the this post. I've been with the same class going on three years now (have taught them since 1st and now we're starting 4th together). I was looking for ways to change things up a bit and challenge them some more since so many students are already used to the system and sometimes you need to shake things up a bit. After reading this I'm definitely inspired to try the classroom economy since it is something that I've never done before but always wanted to try. I also loved how you connected Class Dojo into which is a big part of my classroom . Thank you so much for sharing your ideas. I'm definitely a new huge fan of your blog now!!
I used dojo in secnmd grade and it was great. Especiallu during a field trip I pulled the djo app and clipped them down from the bus. I am moving from second to fifth this year. I love this idea and am going to try and use it. Im nervois about my managemnt in an upper elem grade.
I'm SO glad I found your post on the Back to School Linky!! I started using Class Dojo in the middle of the year, but I'm revamping the way I do things for next year. I am in love with your economy system, and the wheels are now turning on how I'm going to do that next year. You usually hear about people using Class Dojo OR a clip chart OR a money system. I appreciate how you shared how you combine the different system. Thanks!!
I LOVE this post! Just pinned it and I have your coupons on my TPT wishlist. I'm definitely buying them once I figure out what I am doing for behavior this year. I used an economy system based on stickers along with a clip chart. I love the idea of Class Dojo, but I've never used it.
Thank you so much for pointing me toward this post! I am going to make the switch to Class Dojo! I'm brainstorming class jobs right now. Do you have a list somewhere of your classroom jobs? Thanks again for all of your help!
The Blessed Teacher
But as you know, teachers' minds immediately turn to what we can do differently next year. Considering the fact that classroom management is one of the biggest challenges teachers face, we are always searching for something that will work.
This year I started using ClassDojo, a classroom management system that has consistently helped me with the behaviors in my classroom. It's very easy to set up whether you're using an Apple or Android device -- there's an app available for both. With this tool, I was able to accomplish the following three goals.
