I am planning on running an Outdoor After School Program this September for children attending Charles Dickens (main school). This program will run from 3 pm to 5 pm Monday through Friday primarily at Sunnyside Park. Since we will be outside 100% of the time rain or shine this is an unlicensed program. On occasion when the weather is particularly harsh we may go to our local library.

What will we do outside? Aside from just going to the playground area I have supplies for the children to work with ropes, tarps, and a slackline so that we can use other parts of our parks. We can build shelters (particularly helpful in the rainy weather). I will also have different art materials, books, and tools to work on carving skills.

A bit about me. I have one 6 year old boy who will be joining the program. I started off running my own home based daycare as a Registered LNR (license not required). It was during this time that I really began to appreciate the benefits of letting children play freely outdoors and in our natural environment. For the past two years I have worked in an outdoor program for preschoolers. This June I completed all the course work for the Early Childhood Education program at VCC.

Let me know if you are interested or have any questions.
