Eh Up Mister,
You know there's a whole slew of great alpine summer  races that are much more sensible (no qualification,2 digit distances, 1000's of feet rather than metres, and therefore much cheaper) than your UT du MB? And,no matter how small, they generally qualify for Babs Race Federation status by dint of associated party or social and camping / ski school bunks.
Zermatt, like UTMB, has global affiliations. Also international but cuddlier Sierre-Zinal has geographical and temporal neighbouring minor races that can therefore be enjoyed in the same visit.

Babs would love to do an Xterra.
Maybe if the come uk way I would be easily persuaded.
Lots on this year and can't make any trips abroad for events.
I may very well qualify for the Ultra Trail de Mont Blanc this year though for a run round and up some of the peaks of the Alps next year. Wooo hoooo.

Xterra schedules are now on Xterraplanet.com.

Xterra is being touted as coming to England for the 1st time, (but I thought it was here for a couple of seasons at the turn of the century). Anyway, it's the w/e after World Champs at Hyde Pk.

Paul (et alia ) - Czech Xterra is as promised , in Bohemia, 2nd w/e in August.

I am almost certain I will miss the UK race entries will be full b/4 I can verify getting successive w/es off work.
I am almost certain I will get to Prague, banking on the race not being full by the time my rota is printed in July. However you'll probably want to make plans before then -
Flight to and hostel in Prague, then train  to Bohemia . Previously Prague's cost me 30ish, train 20ish and Bohemia - 3.50 - 20 a night. Costs which would be cheaper sharing.

They sound pretty cool Babs and I would be interested.
I just fell in love with the UTMB and its the reason why I want to run ultras and mountain marathons.
I know there are loads of alternatives. There always are for everything we do.
Though is there really an alternative to Kona for Triathlon? Or UTMB for trail running?
Mmmmmmm. Me thinks not.
I shall continue to dream..and hopefully take a Wacky or two along with me for the pure joy and love of the great outdoors.

By the way I will attempt the CCC (Courmayeur Champex Chamonix) first...then the big mama of UTMB when my balls drop and I get some hair on my chest.

Kona is an Ironman Triathlon. Check it out, irrespective of its inferred status of self abuse or not.

Love you
