On behalf of the AIDS 2014 conference we would be delighted if you would support the AIDS 2014 Melbourne Declaration. There are two ways you can do this. Either simply send us an email reply saying you are happy to endorse the declaration and we will add your name and organization to our website, or you can visit the declaration page directly and use the sign up form for organizations at www.aids2014.org/declaration.aspx

The AIDS 2014 Melbourne Declaration calls for the eradication of discrimination against people living with or at risk of HIV, to ensure equal access for all people to HIV prevention, treatment and care.

The AIDS 2014 Melbourne Declaration affirms that non-discrimination is fundamental to an evidence-based response to HIV and effective public health programmes.

The continued enforcement of discriminatory, stigmatizing, criminalizing and harmful laws, lead to policies and practices that increase vulnerability to HIV. These laws, policies, and practices incite extreme violence towards marginalized populations, reinforce stigma and undermine HIV programmes, and as such are significant steps backward for social justice, equality, human rights and access to health care for both people living with HIV and those people most at risk of acquiring the virus.

In over 80 countries, there are unacceptable laws that criminalize people on the basis of sexual orientation. All people, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people are entitled to the same rights as everyone else. All people are born free and equal and are equal members of the human family.

According to Professor Sharon Lewin, Local Co-Chair of AIDS 2014; “If we really want to change the course of HIV we must make sure that nobody is left behind. AIDS 2014 will be a truly global, inclusive conference and will reflect the principles of the Declaration.”
