Julie 2 is a sequel to the 2004 film Julie, which starred Neha Dhupia in the lead role. The film is written, co-produced and directed by Deepak Shivdasani and features Raai Laxmi, who makes her debut in Hindi cinema, as the titular character. The film was released on 24 November 2017 and received mostly negative reviews from critics and audiences alike. [1]
The film follows the story of Julie, a simple girl who dreams of becoming a successful actress in the film industry. However, she soon realizes that she has to compromise her morals and dignity to achieve fame and fortune. She gets involved with various men who exploit her and betray her trust. She also faces the dark side of the industry, which includes casting couch, corruption and murder. She seeks solace in Christianity but finds herself in more trouble when she agrees to star in a biopic of a politician's wife, who has a mysterious connection to her past. [2]
The film tries to portray the harsh realities of the glamour world and the struggles of a female star, but fails to do so convincingly. The film is filled with clichés, melodrama and sleaze. The dialogues are cringeworthy and the songs are forgettable. The film also lacks suspense and thrill, as the plot is predictable and unoriginal. The film relies heavily on Raai Laxmi's bold scenes and skin show, but even that does not save the film from being a bore. [3]
Raai Laxmi has an impressive screen presence and looks stunning in every frame, but her acting skills are not up to the mark. She fails to express the emotions and nuances of her character convincingly. She also does not have much chemistry with her co-stars, who are mostly mediocre or hamming. Ravi Kishan, who plays a Telugu superstar, is unintentionally funny with his over-the-top performance. Pankaj Tripathi, who plays a would-be chief minister, is wasted in a poorly written role. Nishikant Kamat, who plays a film director, is decent but has nothing much to do. [4]
Julie 2 is a disappointing film that does not live up to its expectations. It is neither erotic nor thrilling, but rather dull and boring. It is a film that can be easily skipped without missing much.
