@Will-Kenworthy Can you let me know how you get on loading Spectral Layers from Samplitude please? I can't seem to press play once the sample load into SL5 in order to hear it. Could be the way mine loads but if others have the same problem a fix might be needed from magix. Thanks!
I've seen this behavior for quite awhile regarding ASIO. I always use ASIO unless I'm not connected to my RME Fireface. I just save out what I want to open in SF and then open the file within that program. Not ideal but workable. Generally for SF it will be a final mastered project anyway. I haven't had a chance to use Spectral Layers yet as I just got the package (Samplitude X3 suite with SFP 11 and SPL 5) and am still learning Samplitude.

Samplitude comes in three versions: Pro X ($399), which includes 17 virtual instruments and all of the program's main features; Pro X Suite ($599), which adds a complete copy of the excellent Sound Forge Pro 11 audio editor, DDP master support, five additional VSTs, the full 70GB soundset for the Independence instrument, and a cleaning and restoration suite; and Pro X365 ($12.49 per month to $14.99 per month), a subscription-based version that includes all of the above plus SpectraLayers Pro 5, a visual audio editor that offers comprehensive spectral analysis.
There are plenty of on-board effects, as well as more full-featured plug-ins like Vandal, a flexible guitar and bass amplifier with 70 presets, 24 stomp boxes, and multiple mics. There's also a suite of analog rack tools for compression, full channel-strip effects, shaping transients, and mastering dynamics. Samplitude delivers some excellent metering out of the box, performance glitches aside, including a spectrum visualizer you can call up on the main page with a single click and a pair of master outs. These are extremely useful in a pro context, and it's great to see them as part of the standard view.
The trick for Magix will be hooking new shoppers upgrading from Magix Music Maker or otherwise buying their first pro-level DAW, as well as convincing long-time users of competing DAWs to switch to Samplitude. Getting Music Maker users on board is a pretty easy call, but the rest will prove tougher with such high-level competition. Samplitude's score editor and wave-editing tools beat what you get with PreSonus Studio One 4, for example, but that program has a faster recording workflow and its own mastering suite. If you're collaborating with a group of musicians using Logic or Live, you're going to want the same program. There really isn't enough here to get someone already in bed with Editors' Choice Pro Tools or, say, even FL Studio to come over to the Samplitude camp.
Exclusive to Samplitude Pro X8 Suite: Spectral processing provides you with a frequency-based cleaning tool at track level. Remove noise such as coughing or clapping without affecting the original signal. Noise can be quickly identified and immediately removed. Cleaning effects such as DeHisser, DeClipper and DeNoiser are also available outside the suite in Samplitude Pro X8.
