resque & mailer broke

using the stable release 0.0.3.4
doing normal ubuntu server updates. today it broke my resque workers, and about a week ago it broke my email notifications... any reasons? i didn't take heed to the packages i updated. where can i find the logs for apt-get installations?
i'm thinking i'll roll it back a bit!

in case this is happening to anyone else... ran bundle update and things are back to normal
