I'm not sure what you're looking to do with this, or why you'd want it, but go ahead and fork the codebase http://github.com/diaspora/diaspora, we don't mind. :) Just make sure to open-source your changes and maintain compliance with our federation protocol in order to keep your pod on the network. :)

Well, the positive side of this, from my point of view would be double:
- Read my news from Diaspora and being able to share them immediately with my friends.
- It could be an alternative to Google Reader, since it will stop working around July. So we could bring more users to Diaspora (those who have to change to a new RSS reader).
Of course, this comes quickly from the top of my head, but I think I'll give a try as soon as possible.
