Why Do We Call Them Nappies and Diapers.
Diapers (USA). Diapers were originally made of
a cotton or linen fabric consisting of repeated
geometric shapes called diapering.The cloth
became know as diaper cloth..Hence Diapers

Nappies (Nappys) UK.. Nappies were first called
napkins. Napkin is a French word meaning
folded cloth...Napkins became shortened to
nappies in the 1960s....
Napkin is also the name of the cloth we
use at the diner table to wipe our mouth on.

 In the old days nappies were called
clouts.A mother would say,"I'm going to give
my baby a fresh clout".Or,"I give my baby a
new clout six times a day"...lol
Clout is an old word for an article of
clothing.......Clout in modern times
means a smack....

When humans were primitive and mothers
wrapped their babies in fur,and animal skin
ect.I wonder if some babies developed a
fetish for their  baby coverings as we did....
