Benchmarking progress in language

Is it possible to use Dialang to test a student's level at the beginning of a class, and again at the end, in order to measure the overall progress?

If not, could you recommend better tools for that purpose?  

I am wanting to compare the levels of progression between groups of students using different learning methods.
