Hello
Two questions:
1. wouldn't it be useful to transform Dialang to an online website style form instead of the client that needs to be downloaded and installed (avoiding installation and connection problems).
2. Would it be possible for a teacher to receive the results when pupils are taking the test in class setups?

Hi Filip,

Welcome to the group.

Plans to make Dialang fully web based are in the pipeline. Could you elaborate on the use case for results gathering? Would you be interested in timed tests as well, for instance?

Cheers,
Adrian.

Glad to hear there are plans to make a web-based version! I've been interested in what I've heard about Dialang for quite a while, but since I have a Mac computer I have been unable to use the program. As long as the web-based version could interface with a Mac, that would effectively replace the need for an alternate Mac version of the program. Looking forward to hearing more about developments! And Adrian, thanks very much for starting the group.
Best, Jinx

Hello Adrian
Dialang is the only (fairly) objective and freely available tool ESL/EFL teachers can use to evaluate the level of English (and of course other languages). It's a lot better than whatever I have found on the internet because it assesses the level of the user at the start and provides levelled questions. Therefore I have used the tool in my ESL/EFL classes in Belgium. As a teacher, though, I would love to get an overview of the level of my pupils (how do they score), so any kind of class entry (by name list) with a login for the user/teacher and/or forwarding of the marks/levels to the teacher would be lovely and be very useful - even for the user (let say if he/she would like to add their marks to their language portfolio). Even more lovely would be if an analysis of the mistakes was made as well (where does the user of the language need improvement?).
I would like to take part in tests.

Hi Jinx,

Welcome to the group.

I use  a Mac also and have a working version of the client. It's bit on the buggy side though, to be honest, and it is debatable whether it would be less costly just to make the entire thing web based, rather than fix the client software as it stands. One thing I am interested in is allowing the software to be embedded in a local learning environment, like Moodle or Sakai as this may go some way to facilitating non-anonymous test taking for classroom scenarios.

If people are interested I could post a cross platform version of the current software, to try out. As I said though, it is buggier than the released version.

Cheers,
Adrian.

Dear Adrian,
I think Dialang is great. However, other coleagues compain about h lengt f time it takes for students. Is there a way to make a 'global level' test and then of course focus on the individual skills that you do?

It would be great to be able to try out a Mac version.  We're mostly Mac users, too.  We have dual-booting machines many places, but it's inconvenient to have to reboot in Windows.  I would also welcome a web-based version, but it sounds like that's a while off.

Hello,

We are using Dialang for testing students level in English. We too would like very much to have the possibility for students to print their results and send them via email (results obtained in the placement test and the different language tests).

Best,

Hi Adrian,

You mentioned a try-out version, is that one already up and running somewhere?
I'm using OSX (Mac) and I am supposed to use Dialang for my education, which of course doesn't work on my computer.
I'd be really interested in using the cross-platform version, even if it has a few bugs. I would also not mind testing it and reporting back the errors I came across.

Kind regards,

Frits

Hi Adrian

Are there any news about the web-based version of DIALANG? I am connecting every day to check if this version is already working but I see no changes. Will you informe this group about the date when it is going to start running?

Thanx,

Carmen
