My primary email address stopped sending mail using the Mail app on both my iPads and my iPhone after the iOS 17.1 update. I could still receive emails from that account, but not send. This is not an exchange account, just a regular email account from my ISP, using IMAP protocol. No iCloud.
I tried deleting the account on one of the iPads and then rentering it as a new account, using settings provided by my ISP. I was able to send email again on the iPad, but the email account only syncs up with the Inbox. All other folders, including archived messages, are missing on the iPad. Updating to iOS 17.1.1 has made no difference.
Why is it every update requires hours of my time just to restore basic functionality? The latest automatic update (new phone was set to auto and I neglected to turn that off) 17.1 has taken away my ability to send email. The phone will not even allow me to change advanced outgoing mail settings. It may be time for me to look to Android. I've been an iPhone user since they came out, but I'm tired of updates that completely wreck the phone and my day.
I posted and Apple must have removed my post here. If they do not like the facts that they flawed their on product, then they should do better up front when releasing new iOS updates. Nothing here works and their customer support experience was terrible.
I removed/deleted all email accounts from the device and account. I rebooted the phone after and waited a few weeks. Now I added the email accounts back to the device and it seemed that Hotmail needed to be added by way of outlook and required a new password once it was added. There is a strange process now that has not ever happened before. Fingers crossed it's all fine now but I agree with JuliPop, we should not have to spend hours and days trying to get our primary communication device restored. With 3 kids in various stages of life and so many school functions you think public school is being run by an escapee from an insane asylum, we need these devices to be 100% trouble free to handle communication between spouses.
Last night I ran into issues when I was noticing my email lists were not updating across devices, so I opted to renew my email account in both my iPhone and iPad. Then I ran into an issue where I am putting in the right information to create a new account, but both devices Mail would default straight to a POP instead of giving me the option of choosing IMAP or POP.
So I called up my email service provider (because my email lookup was showing it was all correct on Apple's side) and with a technician, we went through all the steps. I couldn't force change the hosting server to be an IMAP from POP, and it would keep giving me errors that the POP account can't recognize the IMAP server (obviously...).
Then the tech gave me the instructions to put in a "wrong password" when I'm creating a new account. This triggered an error which then subsequently presented me with the two tab options to choose between IMAP or POP. This was the only way I was able to set up my email account as an IMAP with the latest OS update.
If email is failing to send or receive, you are likely to see indicative errors at the bottom of the mail sidebar - the wording of the error usually providing sufficient information to determine the nature of the problem.
Deleting and re-adding your email account is sometimes the easiest way to resolve a problem with a specific Mail account. After deleting the account, perform a forced restart before re-adding the email account to your iPad.
Also be aware that some email providers now require the use of App Specific Passwords when accessing mail over IMAP or POP3. If this applies to your email account, you will need to generate a unique password for your iPad email account - that will differ from your normal Account Password. As examples - AOL, Yahoo, Google, Microsoft all use App Specific Passwords when using anything other than their own email client Apps.
The email in question is with my ISP, not with one of the name email companies you mentioned. I do have serveral of those accounts as well, and they are still working just fine with the Mail app on all my devices.
I was helping a friend setup an IMAP account on Mail in iOS 17.2.1. When I would select OTHER, then enter the NAME, ADDRESS, PASSWORD and Description and hit NEXT, the setup would automatically default to POP. I would never get the option to select IMAP. After several attempts, I accidentally mistyped the email address. After hitting NEXT, it took me to a screen where I could choose IMAP and enter the correct information. Worked fine after that. I tried a couple of times to verify that it was repeatable.
All System Updates are digitally signed by Apple - and can only be installed whilst the digital signatures remain valid. After release of a new iOS/iPadOS version, the immediately preceding version continues to be digitally signed by Apple - however, usually within a few days, Apple will revoke the digital certificate with which the earlier version is signed.
Now with the 17.5 I can't even get my mail to load. Has nothing to do with my Internet because now I'm at home and it still doesn't work even when I have restarted refresh played with settings. It doesn't matter how hard I try I can't get it to fixed. I'm so sick of these Apple updates never working. It always breaks something else!
The ios 17.2 update will NOT accept my Apple ID for icloud mail. I just bought a new iPad. Pro. That Apple ID password was just accepted by this site, but not by my email. There are people with critical health issues in my family, and I am a shut in. This is not acceptable! I need for icloud to work, and I am unable to send or receive any email whatsoever because of a rejected (not mistyped) Apple ID.
