Irecently want to check out AutoCad, and being in High School I wasnt going to have my parents give up $4,000 just for a computer program. So I downloaded the 30-day trial promised a fully functional program just cut off at a deadline. Until I learned the trial only gives you 2-d options, rendering the whole program practically useless as I have MS paint for free to draw things in 2d. Hungry for options I found out about the Student package, so I also downloaded that. Soon to learn that it gaave the same results. So the real question is: Does the trial or student version have 3D capabilities hidden to me somehow? Or do I just have to deal with it and try and mooch off of a friend with full AutoCad? Before anyone responds with "have you tried using extrude commands, etc." I tried multiple surface and 3 D commands but none worked and the 3D tools tab does not exist.
Both the Trial version and the Student version are identical to the $4k version. The only thing that makes one "version" different than the other is the type of license it's being run under (30day free trial, student, commercial stand-alone, etc) There are absolutely no features missing from either the Trial or the Student version.
If you didn't have any 3D tools, then it's likely you downloaded/installed AutoCAD LT, which doesn't include all the features of the full AutoCAD, most notably the 3D modeling tools. Look at the program group, shortcut, or program title bar, does it say "AutoCAD" or does it say "AutoCAD LT"?
Or perhaps you were in the 2D Drafting and Annotation workspace, in which case there wouldn't be any 3D tools on the Ribbon (but the tools still would have worked if typed in at the Command line)
You say you 'learned' the trial doesn't have 3D options. How did you come to learn this?
And really, if you are comparing 2D autocad to MS Paint, my suggestion is instead of using 3D Autocad; build whatever 3d model you want in Lego and take a picture of it. Same thing.
Autodesk gives away free 3-year student licences with full functionality to anyone who has need for it in school, and they're not even too strict with it (like a list of approved schools or something like that, which is what my Vectorworks dealer does). I suggest you take a look.
I've attempted twice, two different links, to download and use the trial version of LT. I've been told to try downloading again, but this is very expensive for my data. I've asked the question, should I need a serial number and license for a trial version or not, but haven't got an answer from Autodesk.
To answer your question, you do not need a serial number to use the Trial. Once the software is installed, and during the initial launch of the application you'll need to choose Login then enter your username and password to start the 30 day trial license.
NOTE: If there are multiple parts for the download, you'll need to click each part to download them, once they are downloaded double-click Part1 (which will automatically extract the remaining parts) to begin the installation.

Hi Darin.Green, Thank you for your reply. I followed those steps originally to do the download. I was logged in when I did the download and I've tried the download twice so I don't see how I could be missing anything. When I try to run the software, I get a popup that asks for either the 'serial number' or 'network license' and there are no other options.
-service/download-install/install-software/free-trial-install... and when I went to run, I got a third option this time, "sign in" (plus the previous 'serial number', or 'license'). So I signed in and then it asked if I wanted a 'trial version' and I clicked on that. So far much better than the last two times. But then it asked for my credit card info. So, I paid and now I have the software running. I would have preferred to have a trial period to get it set up while I still had my other autocad software, but now I just need to cancel the old license so that I don't pay for two items for too long. thanks again for all the support.
I'd love to help the autodesk community by sharing this information, but I have no idea where the 'accept as solution' button is that you mentioned. I'm not an autocad person, I'm a business person, and I only deal with autocad (and other computer) issues as needed. This issues has consumed two weeks and I'm very much behind on my work as of today. I do appreciate the time for all your help, but instructions need to be specific so that I can follow them. If I have some extra time later, I'll try to find that button. Thank you!!
i downloaded and installed the 2016 AutoCAD free trial however that has just run out. I am hoping to re-install the trial so i can add some more drawings to my resume and have a portfolio of examples.
I suppose if you wiped your system clean and reinstalled your operating system, maybe you could reinstall the trial version again? Maybe? But do you really want to go to all that trouble just for another 30 days of use?
Even wiping is not going to do it. The first thing the program does upon install is verify itself on their database for that particular serial number. Boing, it bounces to ALREADY USED UP. There's no such thing as a free lunch.
Forget about Draftsight, which I mentioned previously. I just re-read your post and noticed you are "redoing old 3D drawings". The free version of Draftsight doesn't have 3D capability. You will need to either fork over the money to Autodesk or purchase an Autocad clone like BricsCad.
We have license for both perpertual and subscription. The one we had is autocad Lite version, where autocad full version is trial version. We are using trial for testing the extra function in full version.
They are saying software that is no longer installed, was cracked? Unless you uninstalled it just before the audit (when you where made aware it was going to happen), i cant see how they can say anything like this. My suspicion is that there is more to this story though.
Wtf? There is good feedback above but who do these guys think they are rolling up on your turf making demands? Lolol I assume this must be corporate led or law enforced? Either way I would bend over & tell them to kiss my anus! Smooches!!
My guess is what possibly happened is the trial was installed it was used for the trial period then some months later it was uninstalled. Possibility 1 the uninstaller triggered a phone home. Possibility 2 it was launched said it was expired then uninstalled that would of caused it to phone home.
As mentioned above if they want to claim it was a cracked version of the trial software ask them for their phone home logs. If there is a log of it being a trial version then it was probably not cracked because usually they block or redirect the phone home.
If they say no then get a lawyer or say legal is asking for it. Then it goes nuclear and you will need that lawyer or they will drop it and say oops our bad and you send them a invoice for 1,575 (just for the irony since that is the price of an auto Cad license).
They assumed the trial version is a cracked version, not a trial version but they cannot find pirated serial number (for licensed unit, we have a series of serial no ) or keygen. we uninstalled long before the notice of audit.
I had an issue with W10 that said it was a fake copy. after some reactivation scripts it accepted my key was genuine (and had been for many years). Might not be the same as your issue, but could be similiar.
This almost sounds like a marketing lead scam. Where when you install the trial license, it asks you to register. That registered information is then forwarded on to a local distributor to follow up with a marketing call to sell you on the software. But it sounds (to me) like the local distributor has taken it to another level as to tell you, you installed a cracked version of the software (with no evidence of such) and you must pay a penalty as well as purchase the software with a subscription.Since its been so long and the software was uninstalled at the end of the trial there is no way for you to prove otherwise.
