I am busy designing illustrations in Adobe Illustrator for a customer, and they have kindly asked me to save my illustrator files so it is compatible with all versions, and they don't run into any problems. I would just like to know which version I should save it as? The options are: CS6, CS5, CS4, CS3, CS2, CS, Illustrator 10, 9, 8, 3, and Japanese illustrator 3.
Command i, does give you general information, but does not tell you the illustrator version. All of the arrows have been expanded, just don't see this info anywhere. Can someone help clarify how I can verify which version these files were saved?
I can't seem to find any solid documentation on that topic.Does anyone had similar issue and found and solutions or workarounds?(Updating all the adobe software to single version is out of question sadly)
Hey guys. I had adobe illustrator on my computer (Mac OS high Sierra
Version 10.13.6) and everything went fine untile today I updated my illlustrator and since then I cannot run it. The creative cloud sais that an update is required but my Mac is up to date so there is anything I can do about that. when I try the three dots botton in the creative cloud next to the app icon to try to download an old version instead is written that it's Not Compatible... Dont know what do to, love some help here. sounds wierd that everything was working fine and one update after nothing is working
So, for whatever reason, this new version of illustrator exaggerates the colors on the image trace tool. All I want is 16, and it gave me 502. And I can't find any settings To change it back. Switch it back to the old version and works like a charm. Please fix this this would have been a nightmare if I was on a time crunch with a client. Luckily this was just an experiment
Same here, the image trace functionality has been totally ruined in version 27.1. What have adobe done to it. Its now unusable. Please fix this asap, it worked perfectly in the older versions. I cant even live trace the simpliest of black and white images.
The Live trace on basic black and white logos / images is far worse than it was on the previous version, no matter how many settings are adjusted. For example under the 'Sketched Art' preset the results are absolutely terrible. Its like using a version of illustrator from 15 years ago. There is no clarity what so ever. Why make the best fuction of illustrator now the worst?
Thanks for reaching out. The product team is aware of this issue and currently working on a fix. This will be addressed in a future release. Would you mind upvoting this UserVoice created by Doug ( -illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/46047355-image-...) and adding your comment there? By doing this, you will get updates on it.
For now, you may revert to the previous version of Ai. We appreciate your patience.
Hi! I've got a relatively small illustrator file that when I open with the latest version of Illustrator CC is coming up with "Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties. Expected dict object". I think it has corrupted and I do not have a back up of this file. I was working from a WD external hard drive at the time. The file looks to still contain data e.g. 2225KB. From opening it in a txt file it looks like end of the file hasnt saved e.g. missing this chunk of code (see bottom of post). I have tried to take this example code from a clean illustrator and copy across to a copy of the corrupted file but not had any luck. Also tried placing the illustrator in clean illustrator files etc. I can still see the raster image preview of the data and can see from the txt editor that there still looks to be some of the data there. If there is any chance someone could help recover this I would greatly appreciate it!
As a graphic designer and illustrator myself, there are so many things I love about Adobe Illustrator. I started my graphic design journey in 2012. After using different versions of Adobe Illustrator, I decided to stay with the Adobe Illustrator CC version.
Adobe Illustrator CC is the standard for designing and creating vector graphics and digital illustrations. Integrated into the Creative Cloud suite, Illustrator is an essential tool for both professional illustrators and designers, as well as for anyone with a creative mind looking for a powerful tool to bring any idea to life. Versatile and powerful like no other, Adobe's editor is currently the leading program in the graphic design industry, becoming a must-have to bring to life any creative project, whether in print or digital media.
means: in newer illustrator versions, to avoid this bug that causes total loss of the last version,
you have to wait until "prepare saving" and the percentage of the saving has run through the whole process, 0 - 100%, and disappears on the top of the window.
Had this problem again today 24 August 2021... its happening all the time. I save the illustrator file, then save as pdf to share the file. Opening the saved Illustrator file then shows that the file wasn't saved amnd is the old version. The pdf is correct, but now I have lost hours of work and have to try to import the pdf to get the work back. Pathetic!
Best for beginners, Inkscape is SVG-centered, open-source software that comes complete with an arsenal of features that make manipulating images and designing scalable vectors a piece of cake. If you need a free illustrator platform that helps you with advanced editing (e.g. cloning, bitmap tracing, text designing, etc.), then look no further than Inkscape. It has similar (albeit less robust) features to Adobe Illustrator, but Inkscape can certainly help you meet your needs and accomplish your goals.
Gravit is a fantastic free illustrator alternative as it allows you to play around with thousands of vectors, mockups, wireframes, UI designs, and more while packing as much punch as Adobe Illustrator. This program has something to offer everyone from beginners to professional designers.
When it comes to a free illustrator for beginners, Vectr is the answer. Vectr is available as a web extension or desktop software, and both of these options are simple, and easy to understand and use. Vectr is a great gateway to vector arts because it doesn't have all the features Adobe Illustrator does, and has little to no learning curve. However, it does have just enough to introduce beginners to the field.
With an advanced vector toolkit, boolean features, and stress-free masking, Vectornator is a staple as a free illustrator alternative. It's great for Mac users due to its compatibility with the M1 chip, and does not require you to install applications to design interfaces or illustrators as you can accomplish all that and more with this tool.
If you need an Adobe Illustrator alternative that is more advanced or offers more than a free illustrator alternative does, you have options. Here's a look at three options for an Adobe Illustrator paid alternative.
The best vector editor overall is Adobe Illustrator CC
If you're a professional designer or illustrator, there's no beating the industry standard vector editing software. Adobe Illustrator is available as a standalone app, or as part of the Creative Cloud suite along with Photoshop, Lightroom and much more. Whether you're creating app icons or billboards, it has all the tools you need, and works seamlessly with Adobe's other software. It's not free, like the options below, but it's the best tool money can buy.
The learning curve is steep with its online illustrator tool, but there's little you can't do with Figma. There's both support for Google Fonts and your own imported, offline fonts. It's easy to create shapes or design custom shapes through a Pathfinder-like tool, and there's full mask support. You can also save them as Components to reuse in your other projects.
