Howto connect the keyboard to cubase such that I can import the song (I beleive this will still be in midi) I create in Yamaha and do a bit of editing in cubase and save back as the midi file and play back on yamaha . I want to be able to hear the sounds come out of the yamaha while I do the editing . I am still a starter to this stuff so looking to start with easy lsiten and correct approach . I have a USB to host cable but not sure of what do I need to do in terms of settings between the two
was able to find something on topic 1 . But still struggling on topic 2. Essentially I am trying to record each track of a song I create on the yamaha as audio tracks . I currently manually record the track by keeping the tempo the same between both keyboard and UR 22C - However I was looking to see how to make the keyboard the slave such that when I record the audio from the keyboard into the DAW it records automatically after the click track from the DAW rather than me needing to start it manually which always has some scope for a minor miss.
I think you need to rethink your workflow.
I can not see any benefit of recording MIDI Parts on your actual keyboard. Instead, I recommend you record your MIDI directly in Cubase instead. That way you will not need to sync the keyboard to Cubase.
If you already have performances recorded on your keyboard, if your keyboard allows you to transfer those as a MIDI file (to a USB stick or directly to your computer), that would likely be the easiest route. Then keep the MIDI in Cubase.
I have been doing this with Pro Tools for the past few months, taking full song midi files and formatting them for the pedal. My process is to import the files into Pro Tools clip list, then drag only the drum track and one or two reference tracks in to my session (like guitar and/or vocals). I already had EZDrummer and EZKeys plugins and I use them for simplicity to play the midi tracks back.
Oh I see. On this - if I do not want a one press song and want to use the BB as intended with transitions to the parts. I have been successful on most songs to take 1 full measure on the drum track (& sometimes bass & drums depending on the song) for the transition part only - and split it and save it out as a very small loop and place it in the transition fill box in BB manager. That seems to work but sometimes it is not always clean to be able to press the pedal to make the transition flow seamlessly. Sometimes I have to play with this a bit when splitting the transition out. I think I understand what you were asking now.
Hi Bandit. As long as you are using the latest firmware for the pedal and latest Beatbuddy Manager there is many options when creating a sng file. You can break the song into loops, intro, outro, transition, or you can make it play a full song, Some program the intro to play the full song and have the main loop just play a small loop with no sound. One of my favorites is to program the main loop for like the verse and then have the whole chorus as a fill so you can trigger the chorus at any time you want such as I did with Neil Youngs Rocking in the Free World which I did a beginners Tutorial for.
Another Sample I have is
John Mayers Gravity. I have a loop for the verse which will let me jam out the start of the song. When I hit the first chorus I trigger the fill and it plays the whole song up to where it goes back to the verse loop to jam out the end of the song.

The last thing that you mentioned was the key item that I was missing, i have successfully been able to get the basic drum beats of some of the KISS songs that I have needed, but the midi files that I found for Detroit Rock City and Shout It Out Loud has their drum tracks in the 2nd position on the track listing, although that track label is listed as track 10. I am getting a parse error on those two and those are unable to upload. I have searched around several midi sites, but evidently they have the same midi files and I am getting the same problem.
this is my very post here. I would like to know if I can use the Cantabile software, especially the Lite version, to be able to import midi songs, mute tracks and play these tracks live and/or using vsti instruments. Is it possible? For ex, I have Berlin - Take my breath away midi, I want to import it, mute the lead voice track then use my Alesis Q49 midi keyboard to play live.
I have a Tyros2, a midi keyb Alesis q49, two usb cables (A-B) of 5m each, one midi in-out cable, Cantabile software and alot of midi songs. I want to be able to live play my midi songs, using both synth vsti (alesis) and tyros2 default. Plus,i really dont know how to configure my midi settings for this rig on my tyros2. Im a real mess
Ps: my pc is good enogh i think: core2quad 2.83, 8gb ddr2 ram, r9 290, ssd 500 gb.indeed i dont have a dedicated sound card;
Wow.tx for guidance. Isnt Cantabile able to mute tracks from my midi song and this way to be able to play them live?Do i really need to edit the midi file before? Tyros 2 can mute tracks and i can play live. I need the backtracks from midi, because im not that good at keeping pace with the right chords during live:( its hard you know,i hate chords)
Yes,i have realtek audio embedded on pc mainboard,it sucks i know but for now, this is my sound card. I guess i need to buy a much more serious one.
Somehow makes sense. The idea is that i dont have my gear next to me for a few days so i cant check and make the necessary connexions. But i will asap and ill get back with a reply.
Its pretty hard until i get how the things works. One more thing, what if i decide to play live a channel using my Tyros 2 voices instead of playing it as above using vsti (midi keyboard,in my case Alesis Q49). Can i do that?
Yes, to play back voices on the Tyros using the Alesis Q49 you first have to have both the Tyros USB MIDI cable and the ALesis USB MIDI cable connected to the laptop. Then you have to have at least a MIDI input port for the Alesis 49 and at least a MIDI output port made for the Tyros. Usually you would just create and MIDI In and Out ports for both units so you could use them either way later. Once the ports are created you can create simple routes in Cantabile songs in the Input ports section to connect the hardware pieces. e.g. An XK controller sounding patches in the RD2000 keyboard
update: If I want all the midi channels to play except the lead voice channel? How do I know how many channels a midi song has so I can I asign all the channels except the lead voice one? This is kinda weird because on my Tyros2 I can mute one channel and the other channels play by default , except the muted one which I play it live. It would have been great to have the same here in Cantabile Media Player midi out assignation. I mean not to assign all channels that play on background, but the one muted channel which you play it live.
Is it possible to have two keyboards assigned to midi in so I can play the song using voices from both keyboards , in my case from Tyros2 and Alesis in the same time? For ex, I have a song (Take My breath away) and I want to play the main voice alternating tyros2 and alesis vsti.
WoW! Thanx Dave! It is awesome! I guess it is notnthat hard,as i said earlier, all it takes is to get to know the tricks, with your help and others. Thank you so.much! Meanwhile, i checked my tyros2 manual and indeed, there is a midi configuration section.
Ps: nice program Sekaiju and very handy.
I'm trying to read a midi file in MatLab but I was unable to find a practical way to do it. Is there any suggestions on how to read a midi file just like reading a wav file via wavread()? Or is there any built-in midi-to-wav conversion function in matlab or can you suggest any tool for this conversion in order to create a matlab readable wav file.
Hi.
Having owned various Motif's in the past and indeed more recently a MOFX, I have now purchased a nice shiny white Montage. Still getting my head around it but so far very impressed by sound quality. One of the things I was very used to doing on the Motif's was using midi song files as learning tools for songs and as a backing track. It was easy in mix mode to remove program changes etc and therefore change the sound. Although I can using the mixing section to change the sound on the Montage, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove program change data. I thought I had found it by editing the part, then mod/control then receive SW and in there is a program change and bank select button. I turned them both off but as soon as I rewind and start the midi song again, they both come back on again and the midi file resets to original sound due to program change data. Can anyone point me in the right direction to solve this challenge?
Much obliged.
