Im not sure if anyone here actually got these remasters, not just RE5, but RE6. What sucks is, you can't use two profiles on either the PS4 or Xbox One version during split screen, which means one of the two players (which is in this case my brother) won't get trophies/achievements, and more importantly, won't be able to use their own items and upgrades. This ruins the want to play co-op to be honest. Last-gen, the PS3 version of RE5 would be the same way, so I assumed, and maybe it's true that, that's way the PS3 was made, it wouldn't allow it; I don't know, but that made us get it on the 360, which would allow us to play with both our profiles, and we had a blast. For that reason, we got RE6 on the Xbox 360 instead of PS3 (we didn't play that game as much on co-op, but whatever).

I was in the minority in enjoying RE6, so I got the remaster on PS4 as well, and like the One version of RE5, you can't play it with two profiles. This leads me to believe that it's not Sony or Microsoft's issue, but Capcom's, which is super unfortunate and makes me wonder what they were thinking. Why even put in split screen at all if you're not going to go far enough to let both players play with their profiles? I'm guessing many people don't care about the issue, so sorry, but I had to rant, because RE5 is a great game in my opinion, but getting the remaster, we really only had the intention to play it on co-op, and they didn't really say that they'd be taking an aspect out.

It's a fun game on solo, but I am into other games I can play on my own right now, while I was hoping RE5 would be a fun game to play with my brother. I got the RE6 remaster on PS4 because I just wanted to play it, not necessarily on co-op, but when we decided to do so, it was like RE5 again on PS3, which is why I assumed it was just a Sony thing, which is why my brother bought RE5 on the Xbox One, but now that the Xbox One version doesn't support it either... Well, I really hope Capcom fixes this, though I doubt they will.

Ya this is a huge turn off for me. I just started looking into the quality of these remasters (which is why I am here), and this would be a huge turn off for convincing a friend to play through the campaign with me. I\But the fact there are so little AAA couch co-op offerings maybe a friend will want to play it despite this glaring omission. Thanks for the info, this will definitely be considered before buying the game. Res 4 is no question though.

I played with a friend in split-screen mode and picked up a few skill points items while playing..After an hour or so we quit the game and I checked the Skill Settings. To my surprise, I found that I have 0 Skill Points !!

In my experience, quitting a game session at any point before you get the "saving" message in the upper left corner along with the typewriter icon animation means you will not retain any changes to your inventory, or skill points collected. This is not the same as when the "checkpoint" message is displayed, checkpoints DO NOT count as saves.

I know this was possible on xbox 360, but I just played the game with a friend and the trophies only popped up for me. This was a huge problem in Resident Evil Revelations 2 where only 1 player got the achievements/trophies.

Actually yes it is possible. You're talking about split screen yes? As in local co-op on two different users on the same console? Then yes. As for online co-op, no. This definitely works in split screen though.

EDIT: My bad, yes the trophies will not pop for both accounts/users in splitscreen. Whoever loaded up the game will earn the trophies on their account only. Online co-op have seperate requirements too, so even if your friend manages to shoot a driver of a truck for example, you will not get the trophy. The trophies are completely solo based either way you co-op. Sorry for the confusion.

So I've always been a PC gamer for the most part. Always liked the fact that a mouse is 400 times more accurate than a thumb stick. We both have old PC's and as we don't really want to pay the money for higher end machines... Myself and my younger brother bought a PS3 between us and are struggling to find any decent games to fit what we want. Yes yes we should have really done more research before buying but basically we're after:-

'Tactical Shooters' we're quite pompous with this and really want the more realistic end of the spectrum that requires thinking where consequences actually have an impact. I really despise regenerating health but in some games it can be mitigated by the fact that the hardest difficulties equal instant death if you're struck with anything anyway etc but in general regeneration makes me cringe hard.

Are both these titles definitely split-screen coop possible from one console? They're both titles I've been considering. I bagged Ghost Recon: Future Soldier a couple of days ago only to learn that it falsely advertised itself as offline coop. It also appeared heavily dumbed down :( I'm unsure about Vegas onwards. Rainbow was one of the original title franchises that defined tactical gameplay where a single wrong step could mean death with no 'respawn'.

I've played them both as split-screen coop games myself. Advanced Warfighter can actually go up to 4 I believe, but it doesn't allow you to play through the main campaign. There are some coop campaigns.

i had a great fun with Army of two 1 and 2 with room mate. They are very cheap on PS3. Also i play Lara Croft (not tomb rider) games with my girl friend, and u might try Resident evil 5 on split screen if u like ;).

Yeah I agree they're dumbed down shoot em ups. I had actually read that the most recent one 'The Devils Cartel' was a more realistic re-boot of the series so bought it yesterday. I was sadly disappointed. 500 rounds for an assault rifle, 50 for a shotgun, 300 for your pistol, regenerating health, an 'overkill' feature that allows temporary invincibility.Jesus the 20mins we did play were cringeworthy at best.

Resident Evil 5 was a title I was looking forward too. It seemed perfect until the first combat scene and I realised.... To fire your weapon you have to remain standing and stationary..... What the actual F***? What kind of game is it if you can't move whilst firing? How the hell are you expected to clear a room? It's ridiculous and put me straight off it.

Hmm I like the sound of this. I reckon Vegas and Warfighter are the only two relevant suggestions so far (no one's fault) just doesn't seem to be many split-screen titles on the PS3 that fit our criteria. I can't run Vegas on my PC but I've played about 10mins of it. Had a nice feel to it. Regen health *sigh* but hopefully that can be mitigated with difficulty.

The best split-screen PS4 and PS5 games offer you the chance to play some top games along your nearest and dearest. While plenty of great PS4 and PS5 games offer multiplayer components, games that offer split-screen functionality are becoming increasingly rare. There are plenty of good reasons for this, including the fact that split-screen multiplayer modes are more intensive on hardware, and the demand has shrunk as many people prefer online gaming to couch co-op anyway.

There are many genres represented among the best split screen PS4 and PS5 games. Whether you want to play first-person shooters, racing games, RPGs, action games or even horror games, there should be something here to suit your tastes. Just be sure to pick up an extra controller first. Also check out our lists of the best PS4 games and the best PS5 games for a broader look at some of our favorites. And remember: The PS5 is backwards compatible with any PS4 titles we recommend.

If you've not heard of Borderlands before, it's a series of wickedly funny looter shooters, with some of the best co-op play on PlayStation consoles. In these games, you play as a vault-hunter, essentially an intergalactic treasure hunter, roaming the harsh planet of Pandorea on the hunt for all the loot you can get your hands on.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on PS4 collects both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and both of them allow two, three or four players to share a local split screen. Each player can play as a different character class, which allows you to build out a team that compliments each other, and allows each player to fulfill their preferred role from a healer to a damage-dealer.

If you tear through Borderlands: The Handsome Collection in record time, then there's Borderlands 3 waiting for you which is playable on both PS4 and PS5. It moves the franchise's signature blend of frenetic shooters to brand-new environments and is the biggest Borderlands game to date. But we'd argue Borderlands 2 is still the best of the series because of its superior comedic writing)

This co-op-only experience won Game of the Year at the Game Awards 2021, which is a real testament to its inventive puzzles and the large variety of gameplay mechanics on offer. The story is a little flimsy, and one of the supporting characters is a huge irritant, but It Takes Two constantly surprises and delights with a large dose of pure fun. Plus, you only need a single copy to play through the whole game with a co-op partner which is a real bonus.
