Last Friday about 7 people from Food Not Bombs went to Ellis Park in
Concord to distribute free food (apples, bagels and pastries). When we
arrived, there were around 10 homeless people sitting in the park. We
talked to them for about 2 hours while we distributed food to everyone.
As we began talking with them we heard many of their stories of
misfortune, of losing everything. They also described to us their
dealings with the police (one man had been tasered multiple times and
beaten by the cops. Another woman spoke of being sexually assaulted by
an officer). The people we fed also spoke to us about their lack of
warm clothes and supplies. These peoples struggles can not go
unnoticed! The homeless population in Concord, Martinez and Pleasant
Hill is growing due to the deepening economic crisis. With the newest
attack on public workers, low income people and the unemployed in the
proposed California state budget, the number of homeless will
definitely increase even more. Come and help out! Enjoy good food and
community on Fridays at 3:30pm at Ellis park in Concord. Meetings are Wednesdays at 330pm at Panama Bay Coffee in Concord.
Here are some photos from last Friday.
