Student Community Alliance Minutes 1 Feb 2011

Facilitator- Brian R. 

Note Taker- Michael 

3:00pm- met up in the quad then went to room 208 in the student services building for meeting. 

March 2nd- Rane, Michael, and Caitlin M. talked about Faculty Senate meeting. Rane spoke calling for militant bottom up movement with faculty leadership. Michael, Rane and Caitlin M also talked to teachers directly (on going campaign). Rane emailed 18 teachers about radical action, waiting to hear back. Spoke about flyers and an action planning meeting. Talked about administration research and exposing/confrontational flyers/confrontations. Talked about Banners/Banner making parties. 

Action Items: Rane will work on flyers for action planning meeting. Also others will look into/network with other groups on other campuses across the region and state with regards to march 4th and the student movement. Bryan: SF state. Michael: UC Davis and Sacramento. Rane: Laney and UC Berkeley. Caitlin M: UC Santa Cruz. Report back next meeting. 

MSA/Egypt event- Rane talked to MSA about Egypt uprising and discussed possible event. 

Action Items: Rane and Michael with attend MSA meeting Wednesday 2:00pm in the student Union and report back. 

Counter-recruitment- Army ROTC scheduled for next Wednesday the 9th. 

Action Item: Everyone be prepared for confrontation. Michael will talk to SDS about splitting cost of a professional SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING for counter-recruitment. Details and planning during next weeks meeting. 

Table Scheduling- Discussed how we need people to commit to Tuesdays and Thursdays for tabling. 

Action Item: Caitlin K said she could do TTh from 9:00am-11:00am. Caitlin M said she could do it 10:45am-12:15pm. Everyone please ask and try and commit to fill in times and accompany others. 

New Newspaper- Arman and friends discussed a new newsletter/paper they were going to start working on aimed to politicizing and mobilizing youth. It would including foreign and domestic policy and issues, as well as local and on-campus issues. We discussed working with and helping out any way we can. 

Points of Unity- Discussed "Diversity of Tactics" as a point of unity for an organizational/temporary/long term point to be agreed upon to allow acceptance and solidarity with people across the movement or during a particular action who are employing different tactical/strategic means. Ongoing discussion is needed.

Announcements: Meetings are now in Student Services Building room 208 (upstairs) same time and day. Tabling box and literature is now in the club room in the horticulture locker. Upcoming events on DVC Student Community Alliance facebook page. Come next week with agenda items!
