In this work, we discuss the necessity and efficacy of lockdown measures for controlling the outbreak of COVID-19, analyzing data from Italy, the country with the first recorded outbreak of the disease during the first spread of COVID-19 in Europe. We also assess the time it takes to reduce the number of patients hospitalized with severe COVID-19 symptoms after the beginning of the lockdown. Currently (October 28th, 2020), COVID-19 cases are surging worldwide, following the relaxation of containment measures during the last months. The impact of lockdown in the first Italian outbreak represents a fundamental precedent that can help policymakers to define the decision timeline for containment measures in the next weeks or months.

While NHS are prepared to receive ICU patients distributed during the influenza season, which lasts several months, no NHS can manage the exponential growing of the number of COVID-19 patients. To avoid the saturation of the ICUs, governments need to impose strong containment measures, such as lockdown of the population early. Acting early is paramount: after the containments measures are taken, the number of cases still grows exponentially for at least ten days, due to infections contracted before the measures [4]. The later these containment measures are taken, the stronger these measures need to be to contain the diffusion of SARS-CoV-2, and could be anyways insufficient to avoid the catastrophic collapse of the NHS. For example, Japan and Singapore were able to avoid the lockdown of the population, because the governments implemented effective measures at the very early stage of the outbreak (Fig. 1).

The Italian government implemented also a series of measures to slow down the diffusion of the virus. Schools and universities were closed in Lombardy on February 26th, and in rest of Italy on March 5th. On March 8th, Lombardy region ordered the lockdown of the populations (Decreto del Presidente del Consiglio dei Ministri 8 Marzo 2020). On the following day, the lockdown was extended to the entire nation. In Lombardy and in Italy, nurses, doctors and health-care professionals have fought with incredible strength, acting as war heroes in dark times. However, the ICUs rapidly saturated by COVID-19 ICU patients in Lombardy region (Fig. 4) and subsequently in other regions (Fig. 5). On March 21st, the Italian government imposed the full lockdown of the nation, closing off all the non-essential companies and manufacturing plants.

Here we analyze the effects of the lockdown of the Italian population. Italy imposed two major containment measures: the lockdown on March 9th 2020, and the full lockdown on March 21st 2020, where all non-essential companies and manufacturing plant were closed. These measured helped to avoid the collapse of the whole national health system, yet they could not avoid the saturation of the ICU beds in several Italian regions (Fig. 5).

We strongly encourage any government to accurately share data, including ICU patients; this data will significantly help the understanding of present and future evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic. Italy has been the first country in Europe stroke by the COVID outbreak, and it has adopted a policy of wide dissemination of open data with detailed spatial structure. Unprecedented measures have been taken by the Italian government, including systematic sharing of ICUs information, and the lockdown of the country. Most likely, the decisions taken in Italy between February 24th and March 21st have saved thousands of lives, not only within national borders.

Results: AD severity (Objective SCORAD) significantly correlated with QoL measures. Severe AD children showed higher IDQoL/CDLQI and DFI scores compared to mild and moderate AD groups (P = 0.006 and P < 0.0005, respectively), but only DFI scores differed in these last two conditions (P = 0.014). DFI scores negatively correlated with children's age (P = 0.046), but did not differ when considering child age ranges. Multiple linear regression analyses revealed a significant association between Objective SCORAD and QoL measures.

The COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the world in the year 2020 has put a strain on our ability to cope with events and revolutionized our daily habits. On 9 March, Italy was forced to lockdown to prevent the spread of the infection, with measures including the mandatory closure of schools and nonessential activities, travel restrictions, and the obligation to spend entire weeks in the same physical space. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown measures on quality of life (QoL) in a large Italian sample, in order to investigate possible differences in QoL levels related to both demographic and pandemic-specific variables. A total of 2251 Italian adults (1665 women, mainly young and middle adults) were recruited via a snowball sampling strategy. Participants were requested to answer to an online survey, which included demographic and COVID-related information items, and the World Health Organization Quality of Life BREF questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF). The results showed statistically significant differences in QoL depending on a number of variables, including sex, area of residence in Italy, and being diagnosed with a medical/psychiatric condition. To our knowledge, this is the first study to assess QoL during COVID-19 pandemic in Italy, therefore the present findings can offer guidelines regarding which social groups are more vulnerable of a decline in QoL and would benefit of psychological interventions.

It does appear prices have increased. Both Simon and Derek over at Die Workwear noted that when they opened jackets were around 1000, and suits 1300. Suits are now just under 1500 and jackets just under 1300.

Abit of a side track but I think anglo italian had some of the best online customer service in my opinion. Their replies are very quick and jake in particular is incredibly helpful. I wish to purchase more from them but their stocks run out quick and some of their styles are not for me

Hi simon am quite interested in anglo italian jacketing given how muted the colour palettes are. The style is quite distinct. Would you say their gorge is slightly too high though? It kind of seems that way to me given that most modern gorges are lower

Hi simon how would you compare angloitalian jackets to the anthokogy ones? I mean this more from the feeling you get when wearing the jacket. Im likely going rtw and dont care so much about finishing etc. I think stylistically the ai lapel is highet and seems wider in the waist for a roomier jacket?

The map exclusively serves information purposes and is not an exhaustive database of projects supported by the Recovery and Resilience Facility. It does not reflect the distribution of the projects funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility across the European Union, nor across different geographical areas or sectors within EU Member States. The RRF funding amounts shown for measures are based on the initial cost estimates included in the recovery and resilience plans.

All measures have to be implemented within a tight time frame, as the Regulation establishing the Recovery and Resilience Facility requires all milestones and targets within the national plans to be completed by August 2026.

Neuroscience research has provided evidence that semantic information is stored in a distributed brain network involved in sensorimotor and linguistic processing. More specifically, according to the embodied cognition accounts, the representation of concepts is deemed as grounded in our bodily states. For these reasons, normative measures of words should provide relevant information about the extent to which each word embeds perceptual and action properties. In the present study, we collected ratings for 959 Italian nouns and verbs from 398 volunteers, recruited via an online platform. The words were mostly taken from the Italian adaptation of the Affective Norms for English Words (ANEW). A pool of 145 verbs was added to the original set. All the words were rated on 11 sensorimotor dimensions: six perceptual modalities (vision, audition, taste, smell, touch, and interoception) and five effectors (hand-arm, foot-leg, torso, mouth, head). The new verbs were also rated on the ANEW dimensions. Results showed good reliability and consistency with previous studies. Relations between perceptual and motor dimensions are described and interpreted, along with relations between the sensorimotor and the affective dimensions. The currently developed dataset represents an important novelty, as it includes different word classes, i.e., both nouns and verbs, and integrates ratings of both sensorimotor and affective dimensions, along with other psycholinguistic parameters; all features only partially accomplished in previous studies.

The last decade has seen significant increases in consumer indebtedness in western countries, causing concern about its economic and social impact. In particular, over-indebtedness is attracting attention from national and international authorities because of its potential effect on both the sustainability of households' indebtedness and the stability of the financial system. From a social point of view, the excessive accumulation of debts accompanied by households' liquidity constraints causes a deterioration in households' social and economic well-being, thus leading in the long term to social exclusion and poverty. The aim of this paper is to present and analyze the main measures of over-indebtedness used in the literature. In particular, the paper uses data from the Italian Survey of Household Income and Wealth to extend the existing knowledge about the possible ways of measuring economic difficulty and over-indebtedness. The traditional and the new measures of over-indebtedness are subsequently compared with the measures of poverty in order to disentangle the relationship between the two phenomena.
