Lead The Change (LTC) is dedicated to developing social leaders; well-rounded youngsters who are equipped with leadership skills to solve the challenges faced by their communities. Its core aim is to ignite young hearts with holistic concern for their society and nation.

LTC  Program will involve upto 30 youngsters in a six week  program. The program will expose them to pressing issues of our societies such as human dignity, education and rural immersion. They will study solutions offered by role models, personalities and get a short experience in leadership education. They will be expected to apply this experience to come up with solution for a small local issue and in the process, understand how to set up an enterprise. They will emerge with the wealth of a rich network and a sound understanding of systemic social change.

MAKE BLOG NOT WAR

A Freedom of Expression Training for Bloggers

An initiative of the Internet Democracy Project

Are you a blogger and interested in deepening your understanding of Internet censorship and freedom of expression as they play out in India? Would you like to know more about the ways in which such issues may affect you directly? As a blogger, do you see yourself has having an important stake in the freedom of expression debate?

Then this is your chance. The Internet Democracy Project is organising a training on freedom of expression and censorship for bloggers on 25 February 2012. In the course of this day-long program, a mix of short lectures and more interactive sessions will take you through:

-        the history of censorship in India and its current status;

-        the legal framework regarding online censorship and the ways in which it may affect you;

-        debates on difficult questions such as where and how to draw the line where hate speech is concerned;

-        what to do if you are served a legal notice;

-        alternatives to censorship to fight problematic content;

and much more. Throughout the training, we will of course be paying particular attention to how all of this may affect your blog and yourself.

As the training aims to be highly interactive and will draw to a significant extent on participants’ experiences and inputs, there will be space for only fifteen select and experienced bloggers. They will be joined by four trainers: lawyer and law and tech blogger Apar Gupta; documentary film maker Bishakha Datta; literary critic, journalist and blogger Nilanjana Roy; and the Internet Democracy Project's  Anja Kovacs.

The event will take place in Delhi, from 10 am until 5 pm. Bloggers from all over India are welcome to apply: the Internet Democracy Project will take care of the travel costs of all participants in the event as well as food for the duration of the event (as this is a day-long program, we will, however, not be able to provide any accommodation).

In return for facilitating your presence in the training, we ask that you write five blog posts on issues related to freedom of expression in India in the two months following the event. That is the commitment you make if you decide to join us.

Are you interested in being part of this program? Please send your answers to the questions below to Anja Kovacs, an...@internetdemocracy.in as soon as possible andby 17 February at the latest. Selected participants will be informed on 18 February.

Where do you blog? If you are on Twitter, please do include your Twitter handle as well.

Why are you interested in joining this training?

Have you blogged on or otherwise engaged with freedom of expression issues before? If so, please share some details.

What are particular issues/questions you would like to see covered in the training?

Have you ever implemented any kind of censorship on your blog? Please expand (please note that answering yes to this question is not a reason to disqualify you from participation!).

Has anyone ever attempted to censor you as a blogger in one way or the other? Please expand.

Please note that while a demonstrated interest in one form or another (including on Twitter or Facebook) is definitely a plus, expertise in freedom of expression issues is not a requirement for participation.

We look forward to hearing from you!

 Gandhi Fellowship Program

Dear Friend,

I am writing to you for introducing Gandhi Fellowship Program for Final Year Students. Kindly go through it and spread the word among our Friends Teaching or studying in various colleges. Following are the Details of Gandhi Fellowship Program:

The Gandhi Fellowship Program is a full-time, residential, two-year leadership program that selects the best from among the inspired and inventive young people of India to help them develop into Tomorrow's Leaders, by giving practical, grassroots and transformational experience.

The Fellowship is committed to becoming the pipe-line of India's future Leaders and Nation Builders. 130 Gandhi Fellowship joined the Program in July 2011 from top colleges and universities across the country. They are young people with hunger in the belly to develop a Private Dream, and, also the requisite skills and competencies necessary for becoming high performers in their respective domains.

A copy of program in brief and application for 2012 batch is attached.

An intensive 2-year programme that helps talented young people develop the leadership skills to cause disproportionate positive change in society. The Fellowship challenges these young people to support primary school headmasters to turn around their failing schools, thus improving the quality of education provided in India’s government schools. By taking on real challenges and solving ‘live’ problems that exist today in schools across India, Fellows learn the generic skills that will allow them to lead change on a wide range of issues in other sectors. In the process Fellows are themselves supported to discover what they are passionate about, what they want to do with their lives and how to go about converting their dreams into reality. This intense personal change process is needed for Fellows to become the nation’s next generation of leaders.

Structure of Fellowship

The Gandhi Fellowship has been designed in partnership with specialists in LEADERSHIP development. This intense 24-month process, involve:

·      A 6-week Induction and Field Orientation that exposes Fellows to the new environment in which they will be working; familiarizes them with the Gandhi Fellow role and responsibilities; raises key issues in the education sector and wider development field

·      A 6-week Learning Quality Induction that introduces Fellows to the concept of learning quality and how it can be achieved in the classroom. After training, Fellows take regular classes in primary schools and gain a first-hand experience of what teaching and learning involves,

·      Personal Reflection Week once every 3 months, where Fellows are helped to understand themselves better, clearly articulate their dreams and gain clarity on what brings meaning to their lives,

·      Learning Journey once every 6 months, where Fellows have the opportunity to visit different organizations and interact with experts who can provide insights into a wide variety of fields.

·      On a weekly basis Fellows support Headmasters, take part in capacity building sessions, read case studies and articles, and manage to squeeze in some time for fun too. A typical week for each Gandhi Fellow consists of:

·         4 days of field work providing support to 5 Headmasters,

·         1 day of team review and planning,

·         1 day of capacity building with either working sessions or lectures given by specialists from the corporate, academic or development sectors,

·         1 day of relaxation, group activities and fun.

Assistance

·         Financial grant of Rs.14000/- per month for 2-years, minus TDS.

ASHOKA YOUTH VENTURE PROGRAMME

ATTENTION TO YOUTH WHO WANTS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

The Ashoka Youth Venture programme, Sri Lanka (a branch of Ashoka Innovators for the public) envisions young and talented people becoming the solution seekers of Sri Lanka. It will eliminate or reduce the barriers and boundaries for youth to positively contribute towards social changes that are vital to uplift the postwar Sri Lankan society. The youth venture efforts also will create a society that empowers and recognizes the innovative ideas of talented youth in order for them to grow bigger and become more influential.

Selection criteria: The following selection criteria will be applied in identifying active youth for this program:

1) The idea/initiative: explores the concept and/or concern that the candidate has already identified. The candidate will have to creatively convince that his/her idea is worth investing, which is substantiated with context and reality and experiences of its impacts. The focus will also be on how the candidate is disturbed by the social unrest/concern, how she/he became aware of it, what has been his/her experience with it, what has she/he done with it (initiatives that have been laid so far), what do they envision and how the vision is achieved. The candidate will have to provide a comprehensive story incorporating these aspects.

2) The social entrepreneurship skill: looks at the capacity of the candidate to lead his/her community and alleviate them from their vulnerable and marginalized position. This will also focus on possessing believes such as active engagement of civil society and social justice. Creative thinking will be an essential aspect. The candidate will have to prove that he/she has been thinking about taking responsibilities to make a difference in their communities using creative and novel approaches. This will also mean that they should have profound knowledge on existing and/or previously used approaches in the same field of interest.

3) Scale up possibilities: explores whether the idea can be replicated, how and at what levels.

4) Ethical fiber: refers to person’s integrity we call for references and do field visits and monitoring through our network.

Ashoka Sri Lanka will carry out YV through a one year support, where we inspire, invest and support them to create entrepreneurial ventures around a social change issue they feel passionate about. In creating and launching their “Ventures,” as they form teams and work together, young people learn the important skills of leadership, teamwork, entrepreneurship and empathy. They also realize that they are powerful and will continue to take initiative and lead their community and society at large.
